A BBQ With Kitty Malone

a sequel to "an afternoon with Kitty Malone"

Well after I'd finally admitted (in the previous thread) that I struggled to contain a sneaky one during her last visit, Kitty Malone still risked it and took up the invite for a BBQ yesterday evening.  What's more, she had her fella, Phil, in tow as well.... and given that my (curried cabbage) reputation preceded me, I must admit that I was quite surprised.  Not many people are willing to subject themselves to that kind of exposure, but nevertheless they did and we had a fine time where curried cabbage gas emissions were not an issue... (as Ripley would say) believe it or not.

I must first say that Phil is a really nice guy and we hit it off really well... though I must question his decision to ride here in that 'Hello Kitty' car.  Personally, I don't know that I'd ride in a car with pink seat covers, not unless I had a feed sack over my head so that nobody recognised me, so yeah, Phil is a much braver man than I and is to be commended for his courage.

:-" :X

I also asked Phil how come he was attracted to a vampy gal who obviously was missing the fangs, He said that while at first it was important to him, he now takes it in his stride and goes to the blood bank when he gets the irresistable urge to give blood. Now I woulda thought a warm bite in the neck was more personal than a cold needle in the arm, but that's Phil's business and again I digress.

Anyway, while the BBQ went well, it didn't get started around 6.30pm as first planned.  It was hot... bloody hot, in fact, and my son offered to do the cooking as I was suffering with the heat... after he had gone to pick up his girlfriend, that is.  Well it took him longer than expected to go get her (probably got to canoodling along the way home) and the barbie didn't get fired up 'til around 7.30pm.  It ended up not mattereing that much, we had our fill of food and got to yakking not long afterward.

Now I have to interject at this point and say that Kitty has one wikkid, wikkid cackle... not as wikkid as the Wicked Witch of the West's, perhaps, but right up there with those infectious cackles that people like Carol Burnett made famous.  In between cackles, however, we did manage to get in some conversation and now I'm awaiting with bated breath the release of Sunken Treasure, the update. I have those pirate icons I did, and I'm thinking they'll go great together on my desktop when all is complete.

Now this is where I have to say that Kitty has a not so well known sadistic streak.  She knew that I was struggling with anticipation and the desire to know what this most welomed update looks like, yet she gave me a rather vague " you'll like it betterer that the first one", and that was it... no details, no colour scheme , no nothing.  I have no daoubt that I'll like it betterer, but yeah, it was a bit cruel, not giving me even the slightest hint.  Thank goodness, then, I'd had a couple more poofter beers than usual, otherwise I probably wouldn't have gotten to sleep at all last night.

Yeah, I still can't get that wikkid cackle out of my mind, but again I digress and should mention that both Kitty and Phil liked the music I put on: Jimmy Thackery and the Drivers from Wild Night Out, among other things  Kitty reckons that she could easily skin to that, so we have one more thing in common... apart from being entrenched at WC and disliking politicians and bankers.

I have to say that the more I see of Kitty the more I like her, and Phil is a really nice bloke as well, so I'm glad to have made their acquaintance and am proud to call them friends.  After having met on a US based site I feel it is pretty amazing to have met in person like this and have the opportunity to speak face to face with each other... which brings me to another thought.

If any WC member has the opportunity and ability to get together with another/others, I thoroughly recommend doing so.  Being that skinning is the common factor, it is fantastic to get together with like-minded people and share that (personality and character) which can not be conveyed or shared online.  If you do you'll be better for the experience and glad that you did.

:) :sun: |-) :smitten:

So happy you guys hit it off...company is a very important thing...

Amazing in fact, when you consider the fear of CC emissions (Brassicaflatophobia Gravis, for the uninitiated).

You didn't tell us what you all had to eat...prawns on the barbie?

Well. I'm certainly looking forward to the Theme "Sunken Treasure"....or re-Vamp () of her earlier theme! Perhaps the "Twisted Sister" will set sail to plunder the WC and Spanish Main again...

Be afraid....be very afraid (our motto).

Hear hear!

Earlier this year I had the pleasure of meeting up with one of the best artist around, PixelPirate [WC Site].
It was a really great experience, getting to meet someone who enjoy the art of skinning as much as myself.
Won't be the last time I hope.

Next year I'll be attending a Danish DevMEET (DeviantART user-meeting), since I wasn't able make it to the meeting held yesterday (Saturday 28th).

Wow....maybe Tim will be free at that time...wouldn't that be awesome!

Too bad we couldn't organize something like that....it'd be totally awesome. k6 ^_^

Yes it is... good company is imprtant to me, Shaunna too, and Kitty fits very well into the category of good company.  The fact that she has a great sense of humour, too, makes for interesting times and never a dull moment.  Phil was a little more reserved when he first arrived, but once he'd been introduced and felt comfortable he opened up, fitting right in with everyone quite well.

Yeah, I noticed the gas masks they were keeping handily by their sides in brown paper bags. I'm guessing they figured that I wouldn't know what was concealed in those bags, but the hazard sign accompanied by: "Rip Open in the Event of Starkerbark" was a dead give away.

I suppose a lesser man may have been offended by such a thing, but I understood completely.  Kitty had to drive home and she didn't wana risk a 30k plus journey with watery eyes and possible dizzy spells. :-"

Nope, and I ain't goin' to, neither.  You're a doctor and you'd probably give us a right royal bollocking for not eating right, so no, I'm not telling you that we had steak; sausages; onions; lettuce; beetroot; tomato; coleslaw; bbq sauce and bread rolls.

Orright, oops... ugh, so what, now ya know.  Ok, so gimme a right royal bollocking for serving up fatty meats, so what, we had salad stuff as well, and enjoyed every morsel.  Once grace, "2, 4, 6, 8, bog in don't wait", was said, it was every man and woman for him/her self, on account of there being no table service after having to fire the butler for unauthorised cream in the local member of parliament's coffee.  Orright, yes, it was funny... and (by virtue of his profession) the pollie probably deserved it, but the butler had to go/be the fall guy (despite the possibility I may have possibly could have hinted it'd be hilarious) to cover my arse in case of legal proceedings.

:-" ;P

Well. I'm certainly looking forward to the Theme "Sunken Treasure"..

Me too, it is the most anticipated WB, like for me, like forever.  I've always liked the original Sunken Treasure and used it quite a lot when I had XP as my main OS, but it wasn't made for Vista or Win 7 and needed updating fior it to display ciorrectly, which is now happening thanks to Kitty.  I even suggested that she could use any or all of my pirate icons if she so needed, so that'd be fantastic if any happen to appear in the WB and/or the screen shot.

Yup, these are exciting times. :) :sun:

Good on ya, Snowy, that's the spirit, I'm so glad that you also had the opportunity to meet with another WC member.  It really is a great feeling, isn't it... getting to meet/hang with another like-minded person.  Hopefully it's only the first of many more meetings, not only with PixelPirate but others also.

Wow....maybe Tim will be free at that time...wouldn't that be awesome!

Now that would be even more awesomer... a group meeting of kindred souls.  Yup, that'd be fantastic.

Yes, it was a lovely evening indeed.  It could have been cooler (still 35c at 7.00pm), but other than that everything was great.

The other thing was Rob taking longer than expected to pick up his girlfriend and not getting the barbie fired up on time.  He said that it was further to walk than he remembered... but me thinks they stopped off in the bushes on the way back.

Nah, not really, but that doesn't stop me teasing him some about it.

A hangover, eh?  No booze, eh?  Well the only explanation I have for that is a sneaky curried cabbage bark.  I did try ever so hard to behave, but you never know, it's possible one snuck out while I was distracted... like so deep in conversation I didn't notice it.  Probably not, though, otherwise a HAZMAT containment team would have arrived in full gear and everyone would have woken feeling hungover.

Well that's the hope!  While this and the other thread were written to add a bit of fun to the forums, it's hoped that others will be encouraged to have social get-togethers with members nearer to them, also.  It's great to meet in person, and to be able to put a face and voice to their site contributions gives one a greater sense community, in that you realise there's another human being behind the avatar, behind to forum texts... behind the skins.  Reading what went into a skin and why is one thing, but to actually hear the person explain it is far, far better... and one doesn't have to be a WB skinner... any skinner, for that matter, it's just great to interact on a personal level.

If one is too far away, however, and get-togethers aren't practical/affordable. etc, there's always the phone.  I've spoken on the phone with members from the US and UK and have enjoyed every moment catching up with the friends I've made on WC. It's way too far to visit from Oz, obviously, but the phone was the next best thing,

:) :sun: |-)

mrs starkers assures me that "meating" was a play on words.... a deliberate pun to suggest we all get together to put some meat on the barbie., bu personally, I don't swallow that!!!   Nope, not at all!  Recent hints and suggestions (which I'm not at liberty to repeat here) tell me there was something else was going on when she wrote that.  What's more, it's getting closer to Christmas, when it's traditional to exchange one under the mistletoe, and those hints are becoming more frequent.

I suppose, then, I'll have to give in to the hints and go buy her a dictionary for when we exchange gifts under the mistletoe on Xmas morning.
