Windows 7 Launch Week!

It is just a matter of days until the general release of Windows 7!  For the past couple of months, many of us have had the final version via resources like MSDN, TechNet, etc. and I think I can speak for many here, that Windows 7 is a definite “must have” upgrade.  I am running several copies on everything from a Netbook to a higher-end PC, and the performance is top-notch, and in my un-scientific opinion, much faster than XP.

I wanted to post some resources to help users get more information just in case you haven't been keeping up.

Here are some links to get you started:

Win 7 is the first MS OS that I haven't BSOD'd into submission.

They said Win 2K was rock-solid....they were wrong.....I'd crash it at least 3 times a day...without raising a sweat.

XP would do it without my intervention....hey, mum...look....no hands...;p

So far the only way to kill Win 7 is to turn the darn computer off....;)

This would have to be the only Windows OS I have been excited about. Goodbye clunky old Vista, hello streamline 7.

Bring it on!!! XD

I've been sucking it up with XP, and never upped to Vista. Now I've just bought a new computer with Vista on it, and I'm not even going to touch it until I get the 7 upgrade first. Can't wait!

Still using XP on the desktop (which is hardly more than a TV these days) but bought a laptop that came with Vista last winter and so when they started selling the Windows 7 upgrades for $50 back in June or July I grabbed one then. Just haven't decided yet if I'll install it as soon as it gets here or wait awhile.

I'm already set here. I thought I was going to end up buying Win7 Home Premium on Day 1 but I was lucky enough to pick up 2 copies of Win7 Ultimate from their New Efficiency event. Be forewarned that the Win7 they hand out are 32bit discs! But thankfully the keys are interchangeable between x86 and x64. *whew!* Those who have never touched Vista know nothing! ;) You have never lived fully until you have gone through the days of using Vista! Well, I used Vista early before but backtracked to XP. Then used Vista again much later on when everything seem to have settled down.

I pre-order an upgrade to Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit for $50 so I won't be getting that probably untill next week. :sun:

I attended one of the events in Cleveland. They handed out 32-bit only discs there, but made a list of those that wanted to turn that in for 64-bit versions. They said it would be 4-5 weeks. Not in much of a hurry as I am already running the RC version. Just a few more weeks......

Does anyone, who has been using Win 7, have any suggestions for a good how to use or companion book for Win 7 that would be good to pick up?  Is one needed?

Hooray. My Vista's Explorer has been corrupt for about two months so I can't even use Vista for everyday tasks anymore, and i'm too lazy to re-install Vista. It's not worth it. And XP is just becoming so old and lame now. I'll just wait for Se7en. Can't wait 'til Thursday.  :CONGRAT:

Philly, don't waste your money. It's pretty much the same UI as Vista but it just runs a heck of a lot sweeter.

The only thing I find myself missing is the Classic view of the control panel.

Philly, If you used XP its different and you will have more learning to do. If you use vista it 7 is different but not hard to find your way around. There are already books available if you do a search for "learn windows 7" you will find information. If you like clicking on things and looking around that will work for you also. depends on the person I guess. I never used books for regular tasks but I do use the Internet sometimes when looking to do specific things. There are so many great people on here I would think if you had a specific question someone would be here to help you. I know this doesn't answer you exact question but I have done well without books to learn to get around on an OS. With that said I'm sure I'm still missing things that a good book may have in it.
