Savegame question (from a complete noob)

Can you update savegames from past versions of the game

Hi All

I know the answer to this should be obvious, but I'm inclined to ask anyway. Is there any way to update old savegame files to the latest update. I've got hours worth of savegames that I can't use because they are invalid. I know it seems obvious that there's no way to do it, but it seems like a glaring flaw in the game if you can't.

If there isn't a way, are there any projects/teams working to create one?

Pretty standard stuff between patches, regardless of the game.  If you have a save-game that you care about, finish it first then patch.  When you patch, your saves are toast, and that's just a fact of the matter.
