Window Blinds 7 update available!

I'm getting cheesed off with this - every time there is an update for WB7 I go round in circles trying to make it work! First it say Impulse needs updating, a download takes place, Impulse closes restarts and say an update is available. Click WB7 update and it says theproduct is not registered! Go to 'reset data' and the circle starts again!

You should not have to do this Stardock! It should just work!

Please help somebody, I'm sure this happened before but I can't remember the solution!

I would suggest, if you haven't tried it yet, hit the Impulse Icon in the upper left hand corner and select preferences, then select 'reset data'.  Let it do it's thing and then restart Impulse.  If that doesn't fix I would then try uninstalling Impulse, run a clean up program reboot and reinstall Impulse.

Thanks for that but I had already done that (several times!). I have now uninstalled Impulse, redownlooaded and reinstalled but still no joy. When I click the update button it now comes up 'preparing download' and then 'error: error retrieving data'.

If you've tried what Philly suggested, then open a support ticket (and mention the url of this thread).

WindowBlinds 7 is in BETA.  If you do not wish to have to perform any troubleshooting or other extraneous work when updating software, I would suggest sticking solely to production builds.

I think that is a pretty poor answer. Originally WB7 came up as a new install and I installed it and it worked. The only BETA thing I noticed about was something in the top of the window when open. Impulse said an update was available and that's when the problems started. That seems an IMPULSE problem and a download problem. Doesn't seem any extraneous work was needed there!!

as a beta (said so in the bottom left of Impulse)

1st question, since I don't see it mentioned anywhere:

do you have a current Object Desktop Standard or Ultimate subscription

unless they changed some of the rules, betas are available to ODNT subscribers

if yes

have you tried recently?

it worked for me last night after i updated impulse

and yeah, I agree... Shirley's answer would only apply if you're using a beta version of Impulse

otherwise the beta status of software should have no effect on downloading that software - unless you don't have a current ODNT sub (then it shouldn't even be showing for you - but I've seen earlier posts where it did)

Copied to another thread)

Got mine working and this is how I did it, might help others with the same problem.

Clicked on Question Mark (top right)

Register a product with Impulse - this brought up Edit Impulse Account.

Clicked it and the Updates Tab flashed.

Clicked the Updates Tab and that brought up Install all Updates (under the question mark)

Clicked that and WB7 downloaded and installed!

Couldn't Stardock have told us the above?

You might want to try disabling any firewall, anti-virus and anti-spyware during the update process. Then if you don't want the program to inform you about BETA's click on the blue box, UNcheck "Show Pre-Release Versions" then click preferences and Uncheck "Use Beta Versions of Impulse" then click OK

Then unistall WB7 and reboot. Install WB6.4 and reboot.

Beta versions of Impulse and beta software downloaded through Impulse are 2 different settings.  If you do not wish to download and install beta quality software, then disable "Show Pre-release Versions" in the Impulse menu.  The latest stable release of WindowBlinds is version 6.4.

You assume that somone other than yourself had to use that method. I didn't and I think that's true of the vast majority of people.

I think you're missing my point Shirley

the fact WB7 is beta should not affect the ability to download it

the 'not registered' error shouldn't have anything to do with whether a program you're attempting to download is in beta

now, not working as expected after being downloaded, installed and run... yeah, I can see suggesting going back to a released version if you don't want to work with it and support to get it fixed

or am I missing something?

Betas are staged differently than production . . and thus any problem with the beta may be with the beta and not with Impulse.  :)

Beta.

BetaBetaBetaBetaBetaBeta.

I love saying that.

Okay, if I go with that...

then I think your answer as to why the hoop jumping would have been a clearer response than just "it's beta, don't like it go back to release"...

ya know?
