WindowBlinds 7 beta 2 registration issues continue - please help!

Hello all.

I would really appreciate some help regarding the continuing registration issues with new WindowBlinds 7 updates though Impulse.  I'm admittedly frustrated about this issue and, quite honestly, am not only sick of it, I'm also tired of reading some of the poor replies from Stardock staff.

As with many others, I cannot update my existing installation of WindowBlinds 7 beta 1 - even though the latest update is showing as "Available" in Impulse.  The issue, of course, is related to my Object Desktop registration.  My current registration code is good through March, 2010.  However, when trying to update to the latest beta version, I'm greeted with an "invalid registration" error with each attempt.

Someone at Stardock needs to wake up and understand that this is now getting outright ridiculous!  This is an issue that's lasted for a long time now and is one that should have been resolved a long time ago.  Additionally, it would also be appreciated if Stardock staff members would *stop* giving what's quickly become a 'default' answer to this problem - "WindowBlinds 7 is beta software and if you don't like dealing with the issues that come with using beta software, then don't install it."

It's difficult to understand that response since this particular issue is a registration problem - NOT a beta software problem.  Personally, once the software is actually able to be installed, I've had absolutely no problems at all with it!  Therefore, once again, this is NOT a beta software issue - rather - it's a registration problem related to WindowBlinds 7 and Impulse.  Period.

To imply that paying customers are being unreasonable with their complaints surrounding this problem is insulting.  And - it's something I won't forget when my registration nears its expiration.

Now, with that out of the way, I have attempted to fix the problem as described in a couple posts I found that didn't just tell users to stop using beta software.  As of this post, none of the suggestions have resolved the problem.

I have:

  • Reset the data through the "Preferences" section in Impulse.
  • Checked for - and installed - updates to Impulse.
  • Deleted the "odntbasic.xml" file and refreshed Impulse using the F5 key.
  • Attempted to re-validate the WindowBlinds installation in Impulse.

Again, nothing has worked and, while I can see the update is available, I still cannot install it when selecting the "Update" button.

I know I've voiced my frustrations in this post and I hope you understand why I am frustrated.  In my opinion, this should simply have been resolve so very, very long ago.

With that said, if you have read my post and can offer any advice on a possible resolution that I haven't yet attempted - rest assured - I will be sincerely thankful for your offer to assist me.

Thanks in advance for any help you provide.

Not sure why you are getting a registration problem.  With a valid Object Desktop subscription and with WB loaded you shouldn't be asked to register it. I have WB 7 loaded on XP and Vista and had no problems updating.  It sounds like an account problem.  I would suggest that if you haven't yet email [email protected].  More than likely it is something that is very fixable.

Try uninstalling/reinstalling Impulse. Make sure that you disable any anti-virus or anti-spyuware during the installation process. I know Avira causes installation issues and others may as well.

I had this problem with another OD program and when I clicked the update all button under the help icon while in the updates window, the update worked. Not sure if this will help you but it's worth a shot.

I could not agree more.  Impulse causes way more problems than it solves for the user.

It looks like you are an Object Desktop Subscriber and not an Object Desktop Ultimate subscriber.  This may have something to do with the issue you are having.  I've emailed this post to myself to look at first thing Monday morning.  'k?

And yes, this *IS* a beta issue.  I would know.  :)

End of Neil's quote

I got that Neil... and I posted the wrong reply

From what I read before (and I think one of those replies was yours) is the WB7beta is available to ODNT Ultimate subscribers not ODNT Standard subscribers

Which is where I thought I was going with it....

No, OD standard and ultimate subscribers can download it, but standalone WindowBlinds customers cannot currently.

Got mine working and this is how I did it, might help others with the same problem.

Clicked on Question Mark (top right)

Register a product with Impulse - this brought up Edit Impulse Account.

Clicked it and the Updates Tab flashed.

Clicked the Updates Tab and that brought up Install all Updates (under the question mark)

Clicked that and WB7 downloaded and installed!

Couldn't Stardock have told us the above?
