“I wonder what will be of me in a year,” He asked gently to the lady seated next to him at the bar.
“What was that sir?”
“I simply wonder where I will be in a year,” he replied, while slightly staring off into space, “Don’t you ever wonder? I mean, I think about where I have been, what I’ve seen, the people I’ve met, the people I’ve lost, and it makes me wonder.”
“Well, where is it that you want to be?”
“You know,” John answered, “that I am not too sure of.”
He stood up slowly and politely thanked the lady for conversation. He stumbled slightly as he exited the bar, probably from a few too many drinks. The night was cold, but not the coldest John had ever seen. Not even close as a matter of fact. He headed east up 4th street. “With the wind at your back, it doesn’t matter how cold it is,” he thought to himself while fastening the strings that hung from the hood of his jacket.
