Problems with cultural victory in 1.05?

Is cultural victory working for other people in 1.05?

The 12 month countdown is not advancing for me. However, I didn't start this game in 1.05 and I'm trying to decide if that is part of the problem.

Thanks

ps...really hope this game didn't get fragged...cultural victory on medium in 2189 after an amazing start thanks to marvelous starting position.

Are you at war, Bearcave? That stops the clock.

Only culturally :D
No I haven't fired a shot. The Yor are at war with the Torians, and I am trading with the Torians, nothing else. I can try getting the torians to declare peace and see what happens...

well, i tried giving them all my money for 50 months, all my planets, all tech, etc. for the yor to make peace with the torians and they wouldn't budge, so I can't try that. Still their conflict shouldn't cause a problem anyway, should it?

No, only your wars count. Maybe its because you've just loaded the game. I think culture computations take a while to kick in after a reload.

I've seen some "interesting" things happen when you load a 1.04 game into 1.05 (the most annoying of which is the governor screen drops to desktop on me) So beware of playing a game carried over from a previous version.

It has been stated before....save games from previous versions may or will not work with new versions of the game ;)

RayChua, that isn't it.
Shakaar, yes I know that, which is why I'm trying to figure out if this is a 1.05 bug or something that resulted from using a game started in 1.04

Again, has anyone completed a cultural victory in 1.05 yet?
I could start a new game later and try, but I figured someone probably already had.

Anyway, I guess I have two options, try military victory or tech. I have a large manufacturing base, and could easily make a bunch of constructors to upgrade the research SBs I have. I don't much care for the military route, so I'll probably try that if I don't get some other suggestion.

Well, if you're really that close to a cultural victory, you could just wait for everybody to flip to your side. You'll get a military win without the bloodshed.

That could take a while...I find planets take quite some time to go from rebellious to flipping...unless I go building SBs with waterparks in every occupied sector. Plus I've got some minors to deal with...
If I do go for the tech victory, there are at least 3-4 planets that could flip any time...more research capacity :D

Are you in debt at all Bearcave?

From experience, and from an obscure post I saw, I think you need 500bc surplus to get cultural victory

send the save to Brad or Cari and they'll be able to tell you why right away ...if they are willing to take
the save.

I had the same problem in my last game ( vers 1.44) i had a 96% cultural victory but the count down would not start. Had to settle for alliance. ( also a very low score only 500, when i updated to 1.5 and reloaded the game, i got 9000+ on the end screen but it wouid not submit :/ .

Duglis, what do I send and to where?

SoulWound,

96% isn't enough....That means you are 96% to the victory, not culturally dominate 96% of the galaxy. You must dominate 90% of the galaxy and you were 96% of the way there.

Wow....I went ahead and upgraded with the governor fix and kept playing, assimilating planets culturally and shooting for tech.

A full decade after I culturally control every sector (maybe one or two weren't mine at varous times on medium) the message pops up and the timer starts in 2191...very odd.

Cari, if you see this, I'd be glad to send the file if you wuld like to look at it. If you don't have time, I understand. no one else seems to be having an issue.

Thx

Wait, hold the bus. You cannot win culturally before 2190. That is a hidden requirement. It might be 2191, but there is definitely a minimum time limit until the timer can start. Then you must be at peace with all major civs. Then you must not allow the aliens to build too many influence improvements, or else the timer stops and doesn't start again until the war or extra alien influence has been dealt with.

Yes, Gerakken's right. Cari mentioned this special requirement for cultural victory some time back and it came back to me as well after reading your post regarding 2191.

Ah! Thank you so much :D
I wondered if that might be the case, but didn't think to ask. I had a huge early jump in this game. I submitted last night with a score in the 5000 range, but there appears to be a bug with metaverse scoring and the latest version (governor patch). Staffa has a thread about it.

Anyway, I've moved on to a new game and bumped the AI up to normal...should be fun. I'm near a corner and got off to a good start again, but I let the Altarians grab a system in the same sector as one of mine, so that should be interesting. I've also got the carinoids on my doorstep, but they are weak militarily, and while it is not my typical strtegy at all, I'm thinking of snagging one of their systems (at least). They've got one with a PQ 22 and an 18. I have rushed to impulse to make a transport and was fortunate to find a corvette from one of the asteroid anomalies.

That system is the best by far. I may just grab the one then leave them alone so I can trade with them.

Thanks again!

That's strange. I just got the Demo last weekend (getting full version today for Father's Day, thanks kids =), and finished a cultural victory game last night in 2187, and got the win screen. Does the 2190 limit only apply for galaxies of certain sizes? Or is it because the demo is a few versions old (i.e. is the 2190 limit a relatively new rule)?

You must be greater than 2190 to win a cultural victory.  It used to be 2178.

Yep, got the full version tonight, and finished a game I started under the demo. The demo already had me in the countdown to win, but the full version made me wait til 2191. So they added the year requirement at some point.

I had every planet flip to me by 2188 and got a Military victory.
