Victory Conditions

Just curious, what exactly are the victory conditions for the game? I've been at war with someone, they still had 4 planets left and all the sudden Victory screen pops up

that means they surrendered and you win

though the planets will remain under their "control" (in other words its in their name but they cant do anything)

Ah, so basicly it's just dependant of when the computer decides to give up, not any actual fixed conditions (like destroy all ships, or destroy all buildings like there is in most other games)

well if you destroy all his colonies and ships before he surrenders than yes you do win then too.

but i have never gotten there

though others say they have so i base it off of their word

So, are the victory conditions reliable then?

I mean, surely there are a programed criteria that will determine if an enemy gives up or not.  For example, an emeny will surrender if he loses 80% of the planets he owns?

Has anyone noticed and pattern to when they surrender as I would certainly hope it is not just random when they are being attacked?

Cheers all!

I think it has something to do with how much larger your fleet/economy is compared to theirs, but I don't think anyone has found a diffinitive formula. Really it is a nice feature, as games used to go on for perhaps an hour after you had for all intents and purposes won, during which all you're really doing is dull planet bombing.

if he loses 80% then i guess it would be much better for him to surrender.
