why does a newer version ruin prior mods & where can I download mods for the most resent version ?

Ok I am really sick and tired of updating to the most current verwsion and not being able to use any mods! Why can't these updates be compatible with previous mods? Is there some place to download mods that will work with the most current version, and if so where is it ? I miss my real capital ships mod :(

Sometimes when a new versio of SoaSE comes out, they change the way the game files are read by the game, usually to allow for new options or features to be implemented. Sadly, when this happens it also renders all previous mods to be incompatable, even if it just added one more line to say the entity files. So all the mods need to be updated in the new format (which usually isn't to hard, just time consuming). And again sadly, their is no collection for currently compatible mods, but if the mod is still being worked on you should find the updated version avaliable from its thread on the mods forum.

I have created a mods updater for sins AND entrenchment, but it ONLY will work with the versioned mods folders versions of sins and entrenchment ie sins 1.15,1.16 to 1.17 AND entrenchment 1.01,1.02 to 1.03.

I suggest getting my mods utilities pack from this thread.

I wrote it because of the SAME problem in that I like the mods I have installed and wanted to keep playing them with the latest patches to sins & entrenchment.

for real capital ships Grottenolm85 has released his real capitalships mod for 1.16 which should work in 1.15 & 1.17 as there was no significant changes in the files from 1.15 to 1.17 that I was able to locate.

Below is a link to a post i made about Modding, it might help.

also, reason why mods dont work with new updates, is because files change.

For instance, if i build a mod based on the Value of X being 2, and then an update is released that changes the Value of X to 3, then the mod wont work. Its like, if you live in an english speaing country, and you speak english fluently, then you can function without any problems. but then if i transport you to Russia or Brazil, and you dont speak the local language, you cant function, you cant even go out and buy food (trust me, its happened to me)

Its just like trying to run an old Win95 Compatible computer game on Vista, or a PlayStation 1 game on a PS3. Those are exaggerated examples, but the basic principal is the same.

Minor Updates sometimes wont affect mods, Major ones certainly will. Its an unfortunate fact, but one we have to live with
