Heres hoping Win7 and WB will be a match made in skinner heaven

Vista and WB...nah,not so much.

Just from early talk and screenies it looks so far like WB and Win7 will at least work together better than WB and Vista.Fixing the command bar text by itself is a great start.:D

Dosnt look like Vista and WB are ever going to mature...cant say that makes me terribly upset...I never totally got over my dislike of Vista.(tho I admit I dont hate it like I did at first)

In XP,WB was able to skin, with few exceptions, all explorer windows parts. And do it with a high level of consistency.

On Vista...no single explorer window is even fully skinned...and the disparities between other explorer components and sections was an OS killer for me.Way too many unskinned(WHITE)areas and way too many Vista default parts.

Heres hoping Win7 and WB make skinning fun again.Microsoft,in my opinion, gave Neil and Stardock no love with Vista.Hopefully all the hard work Neil put into Vista will pay off on Win7.

Since Vista was the first OS I ever tried to skin myself, I don't hate it as much. But knowing more now than I did at the start, I concur with your opinions, IR--it definitely has some annoying limitations.

Here's to 7!

A big part of the problem is Microsoft...they really dont want people altering the OS.With Vista it became clear...they hid more stuff from the avg user and created a gui that only had white backgrounds everywhere.(unless you were willing to kill aero and go back to the year 2000)

Microsoft is once again behind the gui curve and going backwards. There is a reason most professional apps have started coding their own interfaces...and its because of LCD's.

They have high contrast, bright screens and working in a full on white environment is bad for your eyes, plus it tends to overpower what your working on.Sorta like trying to make out someones face with a bright light behind them.

Well coded apps even give you choices of working environments.Microsoft just dosnt get it...some will prefer the full white environment due to room conditions but certainly not all(and increasingly less and less)...but they choose not to even give you a choice.

Its their way or the highway. They dont listen to their users...otherwise,how could you have a command bar with a few worthless commands...but not the ones you use most often?

I dont care what you put there, just give me some options to change it...gee,like in XP. ;P

on a side note(sorta)...the woman that designed the crappy swoosh in the details pane resigned in 2007...maybe things are looking up. :P

I searched the internet for hours to try and find a reg key for turning that stupid thing off...no luck.I wouldnt need to skin it if I could just turn it off...like you can the throbber...in XP. ;P

I just started using Vista and I am enjoying the access denied pop ups

and the not being aloud to save a file in the programs folder.

You can turn off User Account Control (UAC) through the control panel. That'll kill those annoying problems! XD

I'm back piddling in 7 again and one thing I notice is the SWOOSH is gone...yay!

Probably just a beta thing but the window backgrounds/colors dont work. The dialog backgrounds/tab page/colors dont display either.A fix is probably already in the works for those.

I see MS still dosnt get it...no titlebar text again...dumbasses.

Command bar is 'improved'...it now has new folder...thats fine, tho personally I use delete and up way more. ^_^

There is a good chance that WB7 may improve matters in this area in the future.

Thank you Neil...every little bit helps.I skin Vista but I cant use it...just too much not under my control.

I'm liking Win7 a lot but if it isnt any easier to control I wont use it either...If my only choice is Aero and tons of white or classic...I'll choose classic...my eyes are more important than the gui.

No modern professional program interface uses white anymore...not adobe, not C4D,not Zbrush, not Maya...and they all tend to give you interface choices.

But not mighty MS...blind them with BS (and white!)MS.

At least let me choose...if some people think they need pure white,fine...but let me choose.

Pure white should be reserved for accent...movies,graphics...like when a light is shined directly at you or car headlights turn your way.

If the damn screen is already pure white you have no where left to go but down.

Read a book...is that paper pure white?...of course not.

I agree--too much white can be a strain on the eyes.
