Topaz sounds neat. I was really just looking for anything. Still lots to do of course, this is just an initial mock-up. |-)

I like it. It has a very soft, pleasant color. How about "Cool Blue" for a name?

Just take your time. It will be a good looking cursor.

Blue Spade. Looks like the card suit to me. Turqoise Spade?

This is very soothing, fr4nk3nstein.  I would definitely use this (unless, during the "busy" cursor, it turns into a robot or a giant bug, or some sort of futuristic space vehicle -- there are a lot of cursors that seem to be created for 7-year-old boys). ;)

Variety is the spice of life.

It's a shame that some folks can't complement a persons work without trashing someone else's work.

Yes, it is.

It's also a shame when someone can't be open and honest about their own personal opinion without that comment being taken as "trash".

I don't think you'll have to worry about that, LOL. I haven't even thought of something for the "busy" state... much less how to even animate it! I might need some help later on with that stuff...

Feel free to PM me when you are ready, I'll help you any way I can.

For now here are some things to keep in mind when creating a cursor:

A busy cursor does not have to be animated but it must look different than the normal cursor so the user will know the computer is busy.

The text cursor must be thin enough to fit between the text. I've seen text cursors that stood two lines high and wide enough to cover three characters.

The precision cursor must be precise. If it does not come to a pin point it's non functional. Avoid big fat precision cursors.

The working in background cursor. Unlike the busy cursor, the user can still work while the computer is in this state. The working cursor must be able to point at things. It can't be flipping around, pointing ever which way.
.

Good Luck!

It's a mater of choice, some people don't like animation(I do). I'm just saying if it's not animated it should not look exactly like the normal cursor.

Okay, so I did this mock up in Photoshop... am I gonna need another program to get it working as a cursor?

Here's a thought. Go into cursor XP or FX on your computer and open up the themes folder. I think you can open the cursor folder and view the various states...am I right? I once opened one up and was able to see the different images. I tried (with limited success) to do one using GIMP but that was before my 'puter went south. As long as the program can work with animated gifs it shouldn't be a problem.

BTW...I like it!!

Cursor files are .png. You can build cursors with almost any graphics program. After you resize your image, save it. You do have cursorXP or cursorFx, right?  Let us know wich one you have and we can get down to the nitty gritty. :D

To make an animated cursor you must create a png strip made up of n amount of frames.

I have a feeling this is going to take me awhile... I'm very busy with work, and soon I'll be heading overseas for school. :S
