How was your July 4th Weekend?

How was your holiday weekend?  Did you see any cool fireworks?

We headed to the Lakefront park where we live and caught the big fireworks show they have there.  Unfortunately towards the end, I got a call from the alarm company telling me the motion sensor is going off in my house, and they are sending a couple police officers to check it out.

But it was a false alarm, and we then watched the neighbors shoot some fireworks off.

Here is a quick video I took at the Lakefront with my iPhone.

Mine was (thank G-d) quiet... Sorry you missed the show you wanted, but very glad it was a false alarm (and that the alarm worked at all and the Police responded).

Very soggy, it rained all day. Fireworks were postponed until Sunday night. We stayed home and made home-made ice cream on the deck . Overall,it was still a good day.:)

Here too, Wiz....stopped when I decided to grill some supper (thanks up there)... couldn't you *poof away the rain? Spent most of the day test driving a couple of skins...I love doing that!

Very, very busy.

Along with the usual peak time of year for us (working in tourism), we also had a US carrier (USS Essex) in port. The guys & gals were on their way home, but had a stopover of about 10 days in Cairns, AU.

I've gotta say that they were 4000+ of the best behaved bunch of folks!

All of them were looking for something to do during their time here. Many of them wanted to do what we call 'extreme' activities, like skydiving or white-water rafting etc. Unfortunately, due to the associated liabilities and direct orders from superiors they were not allowed to.

We still found plenty for them to do ...and they departed on high-tide today rested and very happy. They now have a trip of about 2 weeks, heading for home.

The local city council also put on a fireworks show just for them on the night of the 4th, which I thought was a very nice gesture.

4000+ military folks cheering makes quite a noise!

In these tough times that really was a helluva nice thing to do. I hope that scored you folks some points with them...it would with me. Thanks for doing that for the brave people who ensure our freedom.

Since I have become the lucky fellow to have on call duty this weekend, I didn't get to see any fireworks and attended only one Cook Out. Oh well...  :moo:

Went to Keystone Heights...I think i got ripped  :| :D ,  ate 7 hot dogs, watched a dueling fireworks show at opposite ends of a lake with very steep banks and not much water. All in all was pretty alright \o/
