Ranking: What happens when net split and ragequit?

I wanted to know if ranking is affected by ragequitters, ais, net splits etc.

Questions about gaining Ladder Rank and Experience from Matches:

Does anyone know?

1) If a player is facing AI does he get less Experience/Rank from a win against them than he does against a human player?

2) What happens when a net split occurs and different people play the game thru to different wins?

3) If the enemy ragequits, do I get less experience or ranking from the match?

Finally:

What is considered a game that affects your ladder ranking? I understand those are Pantheon games but it also seems to include some or all of the skirmish? I'm not sure.

1) The AI have very low rankings, so you would probably get less experience, but not because they are AI.

2) The person who wins first gets their match recorded first as a win. For everyone else it's counted as a loss.

3) No, but I don't think a match counts if your opponent quits.

4) Currently skirmish and pantheon affect ladder stats. Custom games only count for custom game stats.

WHAT? You mean that if I start a match with a connection problem, or we have a ragequitter, then I dont get the better ranking?

But then i'd leave the game too and get a loss!!

Well I haven't played in a few days so this might have changed, but during the last few games I played if both of my opponents quit before the match was over the stats didn't record it.

1. The AI are ranked lower than most people due to their experience rating, so yes, you will get less experience when facing them.

2. When a net split occurs, one of the players is randomly chosen as being the new host an the remaining players connect to him.  The game continues, with the initial host getting a loss for disconnecting.

3. You do not get less experience.  Also, the game may or may not count depending on the conditions.  More than likely it will count though.

4. Pantheon and Skirmish games both affect your ranking, but there are talks to include some Custom Games as well.

Oooooh! I understand now. The game list updates but the calculations are done at the end of the day.

Thank you for pointing that out again. I didnt get it.

BUT!!

IS it true that games with ragequitting dont count towards ranking?

That is not true.  The best way to know if a game counts or not is to check your games list after finishing a game.  If you see NA in the Results column for that game then it didn't count.

There were two different answers to 2)

It doesn't make sense that the first person to win gets the win, that's retarded.  For example, just played a pantheon match, 2 players on the other team disconnected at start.  My ally was still in the game, so was 1 player from the opposing team.  I know this for certain because a) the pings on the two players remaining was not 0, and the opposing player was talking in all chat.

Yet when I checked my games list, it said that the player controling Thorns had won the match, and every one else received a loss, which I find completely flawed and quite frankly, retarded.  I stuck it out the whole game, won the match, and I deserve the win.

It doesn't work that way.  It doesn't turn into a race for who wins first.  It may have been that way a while ago but not anymore.  Now, when the hosts disconnects, it tries to find a new host at random from the remaining players. Once it has selected a new host, whoever is in the host's game that he's playing will be the one that is counted, and all other games will not be counted.

However, could I get a link to your game?  I can look and see if there is some other problem causing your loss.

Then how will we know if our game is the newly hosted one? I dont want to have to play out a game whose efforts have no  consequence.

Is it always the one where there are more people?

Well sorry Bara, but I think you are wrong. If custom game host leaves the game, game will not count at all. You even don't see the game in your statistics (so there is no link to show). I NEVER saw the game, which was shown in your stats after host quit. So when host quits, if you only care about ranking, there's no sense to play. But you have to remember, host isn't always the 1st person on the light side tab-list. All depends from which lobby slot he took before game started. I think that's why sometimes people think their game counted even after host quit. The truth is, it was just 1st person on the list who quit, not the host.

BTW: I don't know how this works in Pantheon (I don't play Pantheon often). All what I wrote above applies to custom games.

Unfortunately you don't.  The re-hosting process is done in the background.

I don't think the re-hosting process applies to custom games, so you'd be right.
