How do wormholes work?

This is my first time posting here, only had the game for about 4 days now.

How do wormholes work? Am I not setting them up correctly in galaxy forge? Do they need to be connected to each other by phase lines to make use of wormhole travel, or what? I have the research to use them done, and move my ships to the middle.

In Galaxy Forge you have to conect them with a phase lane and then click the phase lane. There should be an option in the box on the right side of the window called "connection type". change this to wormhole and the pase lane should turn blue.
