have you tried a verify installation and do you have speakers installed and with the latest video and sound drivers?

I have a q6600 system running w7 64bit w ati4850 8gb ram 3 500gb hdds on an nvidia 650 mb with no problems

I have WinXP x64 and have been noticing an increased rate in minidumps since the Entrenchment update... so a partial yes. I can play the game though-- but it's crashed 3 of the last 3 somewhere around 90 minutes in, it also dumped on the end of game stats once-- and on a Marza Barrage once.

gonzo were you using a mod from 1.02? I have had the same problem but I found that there is a single line addition to the ship, starbase and planet entity files that might be the cause. ie

between entrenchment 1.02 & 1.03 of adding a line
renderShield TRUE
after the shieldmeshname line.
since I added the rendershield line into the entity files(by hand a fairly slow process) I had a 5 hour game without crash.
hope this helps

End of quote

Neg, as far as I know it was a vanilla [entrenchment] install-- never went out of my way to add anything extra but my own galaxies and the relevant .tga files-- since the manifest files are overwritten during the patch, I can't figure that mattered. What tool is required to convert bin->ascii? I can't  really read the contents of the file to check for relevant line edits-- but Im pretty sure I never made any, as all this is somewhat foreign to me.

Thanks, and any other suggestions?

gonzo you could try my text bin convert gui, the only problem I have had is with three phase capitals that will not convert with the convertdata_originalsins.exe, all the entrenchment files convert perfectly

by the way the line that I changed were in the MOD not the entrenchment files

I am running Sins/Entrenchment 1.03 on Windows 7 x64 RC1 without issue.

edit:  I should note that I did not have to make any changes from the Impulse install or change any compatability settings in order for it to work, it just worked like it did in Vista 32.
