Forum Update - June 2, 2009

Hello everyone!

I just pushed an update to the forums with some heavy performance improvements done to the backend by our database engineer.  A lot of things were changed, so I don't expect this update to be perfect.  Please take a look around, and if you notice any problems or any areas that could use another performance boost, let me know here!

There were also other, minor changes made to the design and back-end structure of the forums.  Most of these are miniscule, so I won't bother to list them, but anything that seems off or wrong is definitely a bug, so be sure to let me know here or via PM!

I disagree Daiwa, but sadly the improvement I saw after the update before is not there all the time anymore. sometimes I get 2-3 sec load time, which is better, sometimes I get 5-8 sec, which is the same as it was. The fora do seem to be a bit more reliable than before, asside from some threads that will not load entirely for me, but other than that it seems pretty stable to me.

#108 still bugs the page for me. I still see topic updates on my reply page, but I have since that post not been able to read on further.

I link directly from my favorites to the "my replies" page, which works fine, but it doesn't contain pinned posts.

Pinned posts show up for me?  For example, thist post is pinned and shows up in the My Replies page.  Is there a specific post that does not for you?

Also, the other post 'of me' you quoted is I think not something I wrote myself, but quoted from someone else, I'll check, hang on ;)

Oh wait I get it. Some guy was having problems that only pinned posts would show up when he tried to load a page. I stated that I have no problems loading the my replies page, but that is not a page with pinned posts on them so it might not have been a good comparison to give him. Yes, topics that are pinned do show up in my replies, but the pinned topics aren't actually pinned on the my replies page.

I'm sorry if it all got confusing, or if it got even more confusing now ;) You can pretty much ignore that post of me if you want. I have no real bugs to speak about, other than a simple aestetic matter of truncating in the karma pages mentioned before.

Where do you have 10 karma?  On ImpulseDriven.com?  DemigodTheGame.com?  Wincustomize.com?  Karma for the moment is not shared across all sites, so they each have specific numbers per user.

yep, thats cool, it fixed itself, just took a while

on another matter, the Sins forum was down again... it came back up but there is one particular thread i cant access, it loads maybe half of the OP and just freezes...

im not sure how to post links in Impulse so ill just state the link

its Deceivor_0's post about stat changes for the next update in the Sins forum

not a reply, the OP itself, it loads until where he starts talking about Carriers and it stops, i refresh, i reload, i shut down and restart....

i just checked it and still have the same problem?

sorry to keep bringing up issues but i can only access the Sins forum 20% of the time, Impulse itself does not not respond 50% of the time and about 60% of the time load times are in the 10's of seconds, if at all

hard refreshes take ages or dont even work, clicking the green 'filepath' at the top of the screen does not respond half of the time, and neither does the My Replies button

matter of fact, this is one of the  few threads i can access

Spending an awful lot of time "Waiting for forums.joeuser.com..." when trying to navigate them today.  20-30 seconds at times.  More than one rig, so I don't think it's local.

We have a bunch of jobs running from around 11PM to 4AM (at various intervals).  We're currently looking into moving these jobs to times where there aren't so many people online, but we'll have to manage the jobs so they don't interfere with anything else (like backup jobs).  That should resolve most of the issues.

After doing some research with T-Man and Dave (our database guy), it looks as if the jobs may not be what is causing the problem.  So I'm stumped, and need more information before I can continue.  For anyone still having issues with the forums not loading or loading improperly, please go here: http://forums.demigodthegame.com/357090

Any chance still for the alt+s thingy? I know you are targeting the page loading bug, I do hope the server is borked so replacing it will solve the problem, buuuut that doesn't mean features can't be added O:)

Whoa can almost make a cup of coffee in the meantime now! Haha just kidding. Refreshing the page made it load fine pretty quickly and I'm not moaning about forum speed. Just kinda made me look a second time if that was 4 seconds or 40 ;)
