World of Warcraft Desktop Updated!

Support for Windows Vista

Stardock has released an update to the official World of Warcraft Desktop. The suite, created by Stardock Design with both original artwork and in-game interface graphics from Blizzard's popular massively multiplayer game.  The World of Warcraft Desktop uses the MyColors theme manager to apply the WoW suite, without the installation of any other applications.

The WoW MyColors suite includes an updated visual style, with support for both Windows XP and Vista.  Icons are included for the XP version, and some slick WoW wallpapers are also included.

appreciate the update and like using the theme. What I don't care for is having to use MyColors to install it. I dont WANT to use MyColors! I dont LIKE My Colors. I continue to pay $xx per year for Object Desktop Ultimate and there is simply no reason that you should have to use MC to install a Windowblinds theme. At least the theme stayed in my Windowblinds themes location after I uninstalled MC. I can still use it. Can't you provide these blinds without forcing someone to install more stuff?

Will this work on Windows 7?

MyColors is used as this is an "all in one" solution for people who don't have WB, Object Desktop, etc.  It's an entire desktop suite, not just a WB skin.

Windowblinds does not work on 7, therefore, no. ;)

I tried to install this sucker and got an error telling me to uninstall the old my colors first, Did that, rebooted, and I no longer had windowblinds either. Now I am patiently waiting for windows/system32/icacls.exe to run. This is messed up. Hopefully, once this is done, I can install this new suite and get on with my life...lol.  :d  Edit: It has been a little over 10 minutes since I started installing windowblinds. icacls.exe still running, installation ongoing? Why is this?

OK, now I can't install this thing, I get the following errors: I already uninstalled it!!!

Hmmm...works fine on my laptop. Only 1 size wall?

Yeh, its not cool that u have to use My Colors for this, last time i tried this, my whole system went crazy, and messed up windowblinds so bad that it had to be reinstalled after many errors. c'mon Stardock, thats a bit of a crap excuse not to up it on its own for Windowblinds, im pretty sure you have the technology and server space for it....

Actually, you don't have to use mycolors, you just need to have it installed. For us OD subscribers, theme manager is also capable of installing mycolors suites.

This is the point. Some of us dont want to have it installed. We just want to use the blind. I personally don't care for the theme manager either. I understand the need for providing content to users without OD, just don't care for the idea of a freebie being exclusive MC.

- oh, and yes I realize the key word here is FREE and some will say I have no right to express dissatisfaction with a FREE process.

Perhaps I'll keep a virtual workstation around with MC installed on it. After install I can grab the content and put it on my real system which does not have MC.

Packaging in one format is easier/cheaper for the producer and the consumer.  For people outside this forum, MyColors is also good marketing for other themes.  More easy/inexpensive distribution means that more can be done in the app developement department.

My point is that MyColors is good for you . . even if you don't like it.  ;)

This suite comes as a MyColors installation, and I can't install it!

here's a stupid question? Where is the permission or disclaimer from Blizzard allowing the use of their artwork? I know it's allowed but Blizzard does require you to note something to the effect that the artwork is copyright to them, yadayadayada all rights reserved.

Um... considering they call it

the official World of Warcraft Desktop.

I would assume Blizzard has been involved in the making of it... :)

Also, it's not something that's uploaded to the WC gallery, so those restrictions doesn't apply anyway.

the restrictions apply if anyone uses blizzard graphics... period.

Well, since no one seems to be jumping in here to help with this problem, I just extracted the files and installed each part seperately. That was the only way I could get it to install.

Nice theme if your into that game. ;p  How about a sleak black Guild Wars Theme huh huh?  ;)  Any talented skinners into makeing a clean not to " Cartoony " Windows Blind Theme for Guild Wars. sorry I'm a bit bias

Personally I think it would be great if us WindowBlind users were not always forgotten regarding these nice skins. We lose out when it comes to those 12 or whatever the amount is of skins we were suppose to get this year. I think its been something like 5 or 6 skins so far that went straight to MyColors. I was initially under the impression that MyColors was going to be used for things like sports or company themes that wanted encrypted skins...but it seems now that more and more are being encrypted.

And no offense to anyone....but you can't call a MyColors skin a WindowBlind when its encrypted and I can't use WindowBlinds to install it. So I guess I just have to do without it.

Me too......... and whats the point in installing My Colors when Stardock KNOWS that it causes problems with Windowblinds. For this reason alone i dont understand this package. I love ya Stardock, and have done for the past 5-6 years...... but this sux. Yeh, i know its free, but so was my work also on this site, with blinds, walls....

To me it looks like things are like this:

It's not REALLY an official MyColors suite (or we'd be able to download the suite without a bundled MyColors installation). It's a standalone suite, that happens to use an included version of MyColors as a platform, designed with and for Blizzard who chose to release it free for the public. As such, any compatibility with other Stardock products (such as different versions of MyColors, WindowBlinds, IconPackager) is just a lucky fluke.

It also mucks up Diamond WB and now there is an update for Quest which requires a serial number. I thought it was a free one!
