Problem with Demigod

I've been trying to play Demigod online but when I join a game my connection gets really bad and unstable and sometimes I get NAT errors.I have a 3mb connection and every other game I play online works with no problems.

Anyone know whats wrong?

Also sorry if I posted this in the wrong place(1st post)

I posted this in another thread to help a user but as i browse the 3 different areas to report issues on the forums i see alot of people with issues connecting ... yet it doesn't sound like they are using them proxies! You have to set it up ... yes YOU have to set it up .... Stardock put the servers up you have to tell your client to use em!!!

Follow this step-by-step guide and you will be rdy in 5 mins! :).

Follow these pics step by step!

1)

Open impulse and right click Demigod and click "Open application folder"

2)

Go to the "bin" folder.

3)

Right click on Demigod and make a shortcut to your desktop.

4)

On the desktop right click the icon and go to Properties.

5)

In the Demigod "target" box you will see...

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock Games\Demigod\bin\Demigod.exe" (OR SOMETHING VERY SIMILAR. DEPENDS ON YOUR OS.)

Change it to this ...

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock Games\Demigod\bin\Demigod.exe" /serverproxyonly

(Just basically after the end " just put a space and put /serverproxyonly).

Hit apply and ok and then run demigod from your desktop from now on to open it.

Note: You MUST LAUNCH DEMIGOD EVERYTIME FROM THIS ICON. NOT FROM IMPULSE OR IT WONT PROXY YOU. WHEN DEMIGOD NEEDS A UPDATE IT WILL TELL YOU IN-GAME TO OPEN IMPULSE AND UPDATE WHEN YOU CLICK THE "INTERNET" BUTTON IF REQUIRED. ONLY USE IMPULSE TO UPDATE THE GAME. ICON TO LAUNCH IT.

Please also note... This WILL NOT fix Pantheon and Skirmish games because that is broken on Stardocks end. Nothing we can do about it except wait for a fix...

Ok im done. Enjoy  .

(edit for fixes!)

If Makerz suggestion does not help, it may help for you to put your specs into the post.

What is your computer's stats?

What router are you using if you are using one?

Is your modem a router/modem?

Etc...

I've done what Makerz said and I'm not getting NAT errors any more but every game I join I have 300-500 ping.I live in Ireland and have a 3mb connection.Don't know the name of the router. My PC specs are

Vista home premium 64-bit

Core 2 Quad 8200 @ 2.33 GH/z

ATI 4850x2 1gb

4gb Ram

Hmm...doesn't seem like it would be your computer's problem. It's most likely something with your router. Have you attempted to open the ports before?

You most likely can find your router type here:

http://portforward.com/

And use the information within to open those ports.

The ports(as by forum posts) are:

6100-6200 TCP

6000-6200 UDP

A more in depth article can be found here:

Potentially, yes. Opening ports can leave you a bit more secure.

If you are running a firewall on your computer though, you shouldn't have much to worry about. Try Windows Defender(If you're desperate) or try something like Zone Alarm(go to download.com and type that in).

I have Norton 360 on my computer at the moment. Is that good enough?

Thats just a general firewall/anti-virus. Just make sure the firewall is allowing demigod and isn't trying to block any packets which might cause that lag.

Also go to www.speedtest.net and run a speed test to the closest server near and post the results plz :P.

Download 2.58 Mb/s

Upload 0.32 Mb/s

Ping 63 ms

Basically the MOST your modem can push (from the speedtest you showed) is ...

Download : 300 KB/sec
Upload : 40 KB/sec

Now what is killing you is your upload speed. I think you would be safe for 2v2 games and 3v3. But personally i think anything higher than a 3v3 you will start to really strain your connection (on the upload part ... which is needed) and therefor you start to lag like crazy.

Below i explain why you can play "All other games" and not Demigod so wonderfully.

(My connection)

Yeah ur connection is really that bad. You barley pull 0.3 on the upload. Hence why you can't play.

WoW and stuff (Ur x-box / ps3 games / other Online games) uses something we like to call "Client-Server". Therefor the server just keeps up-to-date with everyone and just sends you nice little info about whats going on.

In Demigod its p2p (peer-to-peer) and it doesn't work this way. YOU have to tell everyone in game what is going on just like they have to tell you everything going on with them (See if you think about it ... its pretty crazy huh? ALOT more info going around).

So think of it this way ...

2v2 - You are DLing from 3 people... their clients are telling you what is going on and you are telling them what is going on (so you are uploading to 3 people as well).

3v3 - Gets a little more intense! You are now DLing info from 5 people at a time while uploading your info to 5 different people.

5v5 - Now you are DLing from 9 people and uploading to 9 people.

See the difference? In WoW / "Other Games" (First-Person shooters ... any xbox/ps3 games) you and the server talk ... thats it. The server updates you what those thousands of kids are doing (On WoW) or the other 32 people (on a first-person shooter) ... your not having to talk and upload what your doing to every single person. Just the server and it takes care of it.

So thats the difference. Welcome to p2p. Its your connection...
