Playing vs Bots

Why I hate this game.

So, the day this game was released I was very exited. I couldn't wait for the online play and was hoping it was going to be the culmination of the stuff built up in DOTA. At first, I was quite underwhelmed with the lack of heros, items, shops, playstyles available, etc. But I bought the game for the online play and I know you guys love improving your stuff. Thats why I BOUGHT the game instead of pirating it, as I normally do with basically every game. I did you a favor. I thought it was a worthwhile investment.

The online play is terrible. I am SICK of having half the games I join (Pantheon or Skirmish) being ALL BOTS. I quit immediately because I could have just as easily beat the idiot AI without being online. I know this used to affecct your online rating, I hope to GOD you changed that because its complete BS. I'd rather not play at all then play with bots. And what pisses me off further, is I often wait a good 5 minutes to even start the game against the bots. Its a JOKE of a system.

I feel cheated out of my money, and that right now, Demigod is the equivalent of a freeware game with good graphics. DO NOT MATCH ME AGAINST BOTS. The ONLY reason I want to play is to test my skills against OTHER HUMAN PLAYERS and be ranked with them. The game is fun for about 5 minutes if you're only playing bots, it's a joke. So until you fix this, you've lost a [paying] customer, and a supporter.

I probably shouldn't be doing you this favor since you go out of your way to insult Stardock, but I'd like to help you out the door. Write an email to [email protected] if you honestly think the game isn't going to work for you ever again. They have the power to refund your money and remove you from the community.

Every single point he makes is valid.

No, it's laced with emotion and spite. He didn't do Stardock a favor by not pirating the game as he claims, this is an indication of his underlying dickishness. I have low tolerance for dickishness.

I only buy games in which I support the game makers. I pirate games which I really just have an interest in testing out and not investing much time into, or which have shown disregard for their audience (pirated Spore because EA put in DRM) I honestly believed this would be a worthwhile game to invest in the community and since I believed they'd really put their all into a game after working so hard and so long on developing Defense of the Ancients into a tournament-worthy map which in essence is its own game. They have thoroughly dissapointed me.

There is no single player really -- its just the game with bots. There's no storyline or story mode, there's very little background on the game at all. All that aside I was ready to give it a shot because the concept is (was) very successful in making it into a competitive game.

The problem is they took out a lot of what makes DOTA so competitive and skill based. You can't deny creeps to slow enemy experience gain, the items are very basic and don't offer a lot of versatility to the game, the heros are few and far between, although they did a good job generally with balance and variety. The various game modes really don't change play-style much at all.

Once again, i'm willing to take all of that for granted and still enjoy the game for its competitive nature. Thats when I get completely pissed off and have utter disdain for the game. When they try to fool me into believing I'm playing other people when it's just bots. I'm not looking to face bots, they're a joke. I want to play other people. To basically create a system where the player is fooled into believing that hes playing other people is dishonest and needs fixed. The only indication you're not playing other humans is the fact the bots have 0 ping. I expect a game which puts so much emphasis in competing for scores, has an online database that keeps track of wins and losses, and awards points for player superiority, would have a system which the players were actually facing other players.
