THE MOST FUNCTIONAL ENGLISH WORD

Well, it's shit... that's right, shit!
Shit ! may just be the most functional word in the English language.

Consider:
You can get shit-faced, Be shit-out-of-luck, Or have shit for brains.

With a little effort, you can get your shit together, find a place for your shit, or be asked to shit or get off the pot.

You can smoke shit, buy shit, sell shit, lose shit, find shit, forget shit,
and tell others to eat shit.

Some people know their shit, while others can't tell the difference
between shit and shineola.

There are lucky shits, dumb shits, and crazy shits. There is bull shit,
horse shit, and chicken shit.

You can throw shit, sling shit, catch shit, shoot the shit,
or duck when the shit hits the fan.

You can give a shit or serve shit on a shingle.

You can find yourself in deep shit or be happier than a pig in shit.

Some days are colder than shit, some days are hotter than shit,
and some days are just plain shitty.

Some music sounds like shit, things can look like shit, and there are times when you feel like shit.

You can have too much shit, not enough shit, the right shit, the wrong shit or a lot of weird shit.

You can carry shit, have a mountain of shit, or find yourself up shit creek without a paddle.

Sometimes everything you touch turns to shit and other times you fall in a bucket of shit and come out smelling like a rose.

When you stop to consider all the facts, it's the basic building block of the English language.

And remember, once ! you know your shit, you don't need to know anything else!!

You could pass this along, if you give a shit; or not do so if you don't give a shit!

Well Shit, it's time for me to go. Just wanted you to know that I do give a shit and hope you had a nice day, without a bunch of shit. But, if you happened to catch a load of shit from some shit-head..........
Well, Shit Happens!!!

Peace out!

The facts may not be as they initially appeared. Our support for this Marine should remain firm, but it seems possible that he over-reacted.

Cheers,

over-reacted is very possible.....but i still stand firm in the fact that the stress of combat and knowing what the enemy was/is capable of, even when dead, could cause a soldier to feel that he was threatened....

I agree, and believe the totality of the circumstances led the Marine to justifiably believe the terrorist posed a threat. He deserves our support and presumption of innocence, but questioning the circumstances is not unreasonable. How the whole thing struck the reporter is not what's important, in my mind (despite protesting objective neutrality, he betrays his bias just a bit toward the end of his article) - I doubt he was privy to everything the Marines were - but his account of events warrants they be looked at.

Well, Hitparade I think you've sunk to an all time low. Not only are you taunting the wife of a deployed soldier, your last comment was possibly the most retarded thing I've ever read on Joeuser. I hope everyone boycotts your sorry semi-literate, trailer-park redneck ass. I'm pretty sure saying shit all the time is a real laugh at the welfare office, but adults find it offensive and crude.

As for you calling service members "boys", I'd reconsider, if you ever want to be at all popular on this website. If you called me that when I was off duty, I'd break your ugly fat face in for you. And your so-called "service" , what was that? Did you wimp out during boot camp and now consider yourself a military expert? Did your little legs turn to Jello when you contemplated actually having to put yourself in harm's way for your country? Did your weak back put you out on a medical discharge? Stop your preaching, you self obsessed, moron.

Now heres the part where you go on a rant, telling everyone how I don't support our troops, and how you were such a great military hero, Right?

In the words of a famous poet-laureate of our times "Hitparade can SUCK MY BAWLS!!"

Hitparade....that response was pathetic. Truly, utterly pathetic.

I'm pre-emptively putting you on my blacklist.  I'd suggest that others follow suit.

hitparade -

In another context, say in discussing George Carlin's career, the shit reply would be funny. Here, it's horrible. I know it's your blog, but an apology is in order.

AdrianthePatriot (a/k/a: Shit for brains) :

Threatening me with violence punk is over the top. I can be anywhere in a short period of time and suggest we do meet while your off duty, "boy." (being popular on this website is not my concern). Freedom is.

As for Big Tex, and her lunatic picking over a noun, well let her handle herself. Referring to General Bush as a Warmonger is fighting for the enemy. Voicing "dissent" in a time of war is wrong. It's called the lesson of Vietnam. I find it especially troubling that TEX disparages the Pres. , weakening his hand, while her husband is fighting abroad. I just don't get it!

Nonetheless, I've chosen to back off. And do wish Big Tex and her husband well.

But as for you, tough guy patriot, I'll match the size of my pair up against anyone. I'll take my chances anywhere, anytime.

Dawia:

I understand your sentiment. But the "shit" reply was my olive branch -- nothwithstanding my confusion on how Big tex can contsantly disparage Bush, while her husband has bulletts whizzing by my head?

Dhamgrl:

Blacklist me --- that is natrually your perogative. But FYI I've never visited nor responded to your blog. Good luck with that.

Little Whip:

Notwithstanding your skewed analysis, I suspect I understand why you felt you had to express yourself in the manner you have.

I'll only say this much: Boy is a term that is found to be unacceptable?

Not by me, my wife, my father & mother, my brothers & sisters (both literally & figuratively). The P.C. police do not patrol my "red neck of the woods." My blog has been stalked by big tex from my first posting on. Her MO has been less than constructive.

I'm surprised you don't see that this is not about the word "boy." I'm the one who is owed an apology, here. Cibish?

Cibish?

I believe you meant 'understand' in italian, the root word of which is 'cappito'....did you by chance mean 'cappise'?

Apparently, 'boy' is a term that's found socially unacceptable.  All you had to do was acknowledge that and apologize.

Are you aware of the TOS for this site?  Just wondering.

Are you Italian? I'm half Sicilian?

Here's a Sicilian proverb:

Chi non si fa l'affari suoi,
con la lanterna va cercando guai.

Furrgedaboudit!

Boy is unacceptable. Why? Clearly, I didn't use in to invoke racist message. I don't go for that racist stuff. So again I ask why is boy unacceptable. Is that a fair question in as much as it is being demanded that I refrain from choosing my words.

Sever, indeed. So I must insist on an explanation as to why it so repugnant that the word ought to be censored before I succumb to the P.C. police. Is not that reasonable?

TOS? Why do you threaten me? Are you power drunk? C' Mon.

Above Sicilian proverb translated:

He who does not mind his own business
looks for trouble with a lamp.

Are you interested in the origin of the proverb?

Obviously being half sicilian doesn't mean you speaka-da-language better than anyone else, now does it?

I fail to see how you could possibly derive a threat from my asking you if you were aware what the TOS were.  I'm trying to keep you out of trouble before you go too, far, not get you in it.

But you obviously don't see that.

So, I'll just sit back and watch you slit your own blogging throat.

Quit the personal attacks now.

hitparade, this is your blog.  You can delete comments and blacklist people.  There is no reason to start this flame war and personally attack people.  For everyone in general, the personal attacks like these will not be tolerated.  Articles with comments like this will be removed from the forums.  I will be leaving this here temporarily, but it will be removed from the forums.

Hitparade, your reactions and speech remind me more of an enraged child ("Yeah.... well you're stupider!") than of a grown man who has the mental capacity to actually formulate a real (and civil) response. While you may not find a term offensive does not mean you should not appologize for using it. Calling anyone who serves a "boy" trivializes their contribution by making it sound like it's a game, or a lark, nothing serious. As a comparison I'm sure very few people could argue with, lets take any racial slur out there. Lets say you feel like going and calling a black man a nigger. Can you justify that by simply saying "Well, in my family that isn't an offensive term!"? No, you can't. There are times when you have to realize that by using certain terms you are showing a great deal of disrespect towards another person.

There is nothing P.C. about this. If this were a P.C. argument we'd be arguing over the use of terms servicemen/women/persons or something else like that. We're not. We're talking about using terms of respect and reverence for the men and women (would you call them girls?) who serve our nation.

And attacking anyone who has made personal sacrifices for our country while simply refusing to provide any of your own "credentials" to show you have any place to even speak on the topic with her shows the kind of "man" you are.

I thought I had answered that, at least a little. But since you haven't bothered to answer this Soldier of 12 years, it may be that you never read my comment. That's OK. I know I got a bit long there.

I can be anywhere in a short period of time and suggest we do meet while your off duty, "boy."

If this is in fact true, I invite you to Monterey. I have a classroom full of 18 and 19 year old service members that I'm sure would like to discuss with you your choice of words that relate directly to them. Just watching them in action for an hour might be enough to change your mind. I've been training them for a year now and know that they are not boys and girls. They are not kids. They are adults. I'll grant that they are young adults, but they are adults. I find it offensive to have them referred to as boys (or girls). It shows that they are not seen as adults. Sons and daughters of proud Americans? Yes. Boys and girls? No. There is a difference.

On a slightly related side note, the Army trains Soldiers that regardless of intent, the effect is what is important when settling cases of harassment/offensive language. So, if you are so closely in communication with troops (as you've stated elsewhere), how is it that you are ignorant of this? You may think that it is just PC whining, but look at it this way - if I called the troops I lead boys and girls or kids, they would take offense to it. I'm their supervisor and if I look down on them like that, they will be less likely to believe I trust them. If I don't trust them, then they won't trust me. This breaks down the team. It's not PC whining. It's a matter of trusting the man or woman next to you to do the right thing. We don't trust boys and girls the same way we trust adults. So, yeah, I find it offensive when someone outside my team refers to my brothers and sisters as kids.

Can someone clarify for me when Bush became a General?

Also, hitparade, in case you didn't realize it, AdrianthePatriot is Texas' husband. It seems funny to read you telling Adrian you wish him well while insulting him at the same time.

I meant to comment about this before. While the president is the Commander in Chief, our president is not an active member of the military while president. This has always been key for us as a nation. We are not a militaristic nation or culture. Our civilian population is not ruled by a member of the military. Our military serves and protects not only the country, but in fact, the civilian population of our country and to show this the military is ultimately commanded by a member of the civilian population (who may or may not have prior military experience). So, in short, the president commands the forces, but is not a general.
