For an anti-spyware I always use super antispyware, its my personal experience that it once detected some spyware on my system which even kaspersky could not, tho I have been using kaspersky since many years n my system never got infected.

Well, everyone has his/her own favorite...none are perfect, though. NOD32 (link) is considered excellent....but first it might be good to ask if you are in a position to buy, or not.

You could also pm angus1949. He knows quite a bit about computer security.

Most people layer protection. ESET's NOD 32 has various features (see the link)...and doesn't appear to use much system resources like Norton...

In the end, it's what you feel is best and what you can afford. Not an easy choice, and that's for sure. Comodo seemed to hog resources.

Browsing at download.com  I found one 'Automatic form filler' BizForm Bar

I installed it. Run it. Clicked on 'About' in its options. Then Avsat shows this warning:

Sign of "Win32:Agent-UHX [Trj]" has been found in "C:\Program Files\BizForm Bar\Toolbar\bizformbar_update.exe" file. 

It had 4 star rating there. Should be a threat. But I uninstalled it after the warning. Now looking for another.

Just about anything you decide to use is going to work as long as you also practice good security habits.  Software is good, but nothing can keep up with the human factor.  Don't open attachments to emails unless you are 100% sure about who sent it to you.  Don't visit sites that you know nothing about.

What kind of internet connection do you have?  Does you ISP provide security protection?  Are you behiind a modum and router?  Do you keep your security programs updated?  Are you running security scans regularly?  These are all important questions.

There are enough security programs and suites out there for you to choose from.  Many stand alone programs offer free versions.  Look at them, read about them, use them if a trial period is offered.  Bottom line is use what you find makes you comfortable.  If you use stand alone programs make sure they are compatible wtih each other.  Also don't ignore the settings in your browser, make sure that isn't the weak link.

What it all comes down to is you are the most important part of security on your computer.

i use zonealarm suite been using it for ever i have try all the others free free to pay ones had troubles zonealarm ive never had troubles with it, it doesnt dog down my system and it comes with everything u need altho i do add few free things to it just as a backup. its not money killing, i stop using norton b/c it ran into allot of troubles and with there live updater that if u watch it close u wioll notice it will mess up allot that allot dont normaly see if ur into allot of sercurity protection.

i have tested there norton 2009 on my other system and got rid of it in 8 hrs and installed zonealarm again, i do allot of sercurity for many systems and zonealrm has been the best with No virues or anything and i know the updater is part of it not seprate like norton hope that helps u out.

Seems like I would install Zone Alarm but still looking for some password manager which fills my passwords automatically.

zone alarm sucks. it has a mind of it's own and adds allowed sites even though you may delete them, close the program, reopen the program and there they are again. I didn't find the free version user friendly and their support for the free program is none.

free anti-virus programs work just fine, find one that you like, is easy to use and let it do it's thing (usually not a lot of choice they also have a mind of their own) Usually no support is provided for the free versions.

firewall a must, windows firewall seems to work fine as does the malware monthly download from MS.

spybot good and a good pop-up blocker helps. ie7 pop-up blocker is not perfect. I agree with fuzzy on this; never store your passwords on your computer, bad, bad, bad.

That's the bottom line...behavior...don't cruise dangerous sites...be very careful about downloading anything...never what you don't truly need...and what Fuzzy wrote.

i recently purchased nortons 360 3.0   i find it good...but each to their own.  i had zone alarm too, and i liked it, had no issues, but just wanted an upgrade......

thanks Kitty for bringing this up, so let me ask everyone. I have wondered, so may as well ask. with so many free antivirus programs available that seem to work just fine, why pay up front and monthly for a paid version.

Some of the paid versions have more features. Over the years I've tried most and I want a balance between detection/prevention and something that leaves a small footprint. Norton was a pig for the past couple of years but they straightened that out for 2009. Its now a great product. ESET make a good offering but their detection has been called into question too many times over the past year. I am trying out Kaspersky's new beta (it's free) on Windows 7 RC at the moment. It's looking OK but early days.
