Suggestion for new starbases

I have posted ths in the thread for entranchment 1.03 update, but it seems it is almost out of the door, so I will re-post it here for your appreciation (especially the devs):

My idea is to add one additional starbse model per race. Limit would still be 1 starbase per gravity well, and each starbase design has its own strenghts.

For TEC: a ring-station-style around the whole planet. It would have defense/economy as its strongest points, adding a force field around the planet (similar to the planetary structure they already have, maybe better - both could be combined)

Defense would encompass the whole world, but firepower would be less concentrated, as the defenses are scattered around the planet.

upgrades:

  • weapons (2-3)
  • hull (3-4)
  • colonies (2)
  • planetary shield (2)
  • trade docks (2)
  • planet lockdown (1)
  • strike craft (3-4)
  • ship production (2)
  • tactical slots (2)
  • logistic slots (2) - each level gives 4 additional slots

Advent would have an orbital station, which would be able to circle around the planet on a fixed path. A toggle button would allow the player to move it forward, backward, stand still or 'auto' (it would move closer to the action).  It would have more support abilities for the fleet.

upgrades:

  • weapons (2)
  • hull(2)
  • repair ship (2-3)
  • antimater replenish (2-3)
  • shield restore (2-3)
  • strike craft (2-3)
  • planet lockdown (1)
  • culture spread (2)

The Vasari would have a stationary star base. This beast would work with different radiation emissions, and would behave differently depending on how close it is to the system star.

Closer to the sun the base star's dark energy core would harness more energy to itself, regenerating shields and antimatter faster, and shooting faster too. Farther from the star, the space-time fabric ir more  subject to its dark energy core emissions, the base star has an effect of disrupting non-vasari technology, making ships move/shoot/regenerate slower. It would also have a devastating dark energy beam cannon which would be able to attack the whole gravity well

  • dark energy core upgrade (3) - amplifies disruptive/regenerative effect
  • dark energy cannon (3)
  • weapons (2)
  • hull(2)
  • phase lane(2) - second level allows travelling between systems
  • strike craft(3)
  • trade(1)
  • colonies(2)
  • planet lockdown(1)

Thanks for the attention, you guys rock! I haven't bought a game in a looong time, but yours got myattention. i would still prefer if it was some USd 5 cheaper, but stilll gave you my money ;) Kudos for the great replay value!

These are good ideas for new races' starbases, the currently existing races don't need more imo.

Yes, the ideas are good. Both for new races and for the existing ones I could imagine it. It would add (even) more depth if the starbase constructors could build different SB's from the start.

Could be done by modding, hinthint :-D

Love the ideas. It would make a lot of sense to be able to build different types based on what you are planning on doing with the grav well. Plus your TEC idea reminds me of the base around the moon in Starship Troopers. And thats just awesome to me.

I think that would be pointless because the current SBs can already be upgraded to be able to do everything and anything.

They can't do everything. Sure, there is something in common on all of them, but each one has its unique abilities, where it excels.

The point is to add different starbase options for each race, so that you must pick one starbase to tailor you gravity well to your intentions.

i was gonna say that the above mentioned SB's look like they could be some kind of superbase taht each player can only have one of in each STAR SYSTEM. like a command & staging facility. and far more pricier and hard to get than regular SB's...but then again thats just a variation on the dreadnought

What I mean't was that the current StarBase upgrades have everything covered. Nothing has been left out. Adding new StarBases for the current races is pointless because they can fulfill ANY need that you want them to. Except offense.

The whole point of having a StarBase is to tailor it to your own needs and intentions by giving it the most suitable upgrades. Not by building a different StarBase. However, they are great ideas for new races.

Thats an interesting idea. It would have to fill a different role to the ordinary StarBase though.

I was thinking more in the lines of different starbase designs, which could be specialized in different directions of the original ones. I don't know if I really like the idea of having 1 starbase per system, but if I were to do so, it would be a starbase which can only be placed on a star node (and a single one, not 4 of it).

I think that having SB options is a actually very cool. You could create a new ability that instead of constructing the vanilla SBs allows the constructors to also construct the other type.
