How did we win this?

Down 10 to 5, them with giants and all flags

I just played a 4v4 on exile where my team was confined to our base, at level 5 war rank, and they were level 10 with giants. We had me a queen, a tb, a reg, and a computer oak. They had an oak, a reg, an erebus and a computer rook. For some reason they could not close the deal. We held the choke, gained levesl, all hit 20, and started making money, as they could not kill us (often). My queen was doing 500 damage with double life steal. We pushed them all the way back to their base without cats or giants and won. Their reg was 20 and the rest were about 15. Ever had this happen? Was it our thorns/mines/flame circle thing that kept us alive? Are their heroes bad at pushing? Or what. Anyone have something like this happen to them? (all players were pretty good to, they didnt suck otherwise they wouldnt have gotten into the position of being up 10-5 with full map control).

You won because they fed you XP and money from angels pults and giants. Usually that can win games, but they did it too early level wise it appears, because they couldn't finish the job.  TB on your team won that game for you btw, without his AoE you would have lost.

That and you destroyed their citadel first.

note to self: dont purchase giants too soon.

Also, was Leviathan, not exile. Everyone did good, Reg had fully upgraded mines that he was weaking giants with, and top level thorns for the queen helps too.

Exile is the snake map.  It's horrible because there's the choke at the base entrance and the crystal is adjacent to the citadel.  Worse still, both sides have an artifact shop in their base next to the normal shop.    You can't win without very powerful artifacts.  If you were playing on leviathan, I have trouble believing you came back.  The other team must have stopped trying after they got giants.

Like sean said, once most of the fighting happens at the choke, TB shines ;)

Exile's one of those unique maps in that giants and capped portals don't mean victory, because there are just so many chokepoints. On that map, Giants should be used to supplament your assaults, unlike maps like Cataract, where it's better to use them as the actual assault.

Exile isn't meant to be played on Conquest mode. its set up so that pushing into the Citadel area is nearly impossible.

its a great map to play on Dominate, Fortress, or Slaughter mode though, try it out sometime. I know everyone plays Conquest by default but the other modes are fun too.

some maps are made for Conquest. these maps all have one thing in common: multiple approaches into the Citadel area and portals in the mid-map region that can be captured. the maps that are setup like this are Brothers, Mandala, Leviathan, and Cataract.

other maps have really interesting mid-fields but heavily shielded, choke point controlled Citadel areas. Crucible and Exile are both like this. terrible for Conquest really good for the other modes.

Prison is the one map that doesn't work well for anything except Slaughter mode. its super tiny and is basically a dueling arena. its also the only map you can have a decent 1v1 game on.
