Rook Strategy

discuss...

I've been focusing on towers, turrets, then boulder and maybe some stats, skipping hammer completely and it's working pretty well.

Hammer is hard to land right and any opponent with half a brain will avoid it, plus you don't really have the mana to sustain it. I also skip the building suck thing, it's only useful to heal you some so you're better off with potions. Itemwise I just get a cheap mana and a cheap HP item, some consumables, then focus on upgrading the citadel. If the game lasts forever I get that 12k cloak of blinking, but it hardly does.

I just started playing two days ago and I win 4 out of 5 games on Pantheon with my rook dominating the play field.

Teleport scrolls are key, especially on larger maps. When I see a demigod trying to capture a flag I just TP there, plop a tower down, stun with boulder and start whacking. If things don't seem to go my way I retreat a little, with the opponent often trying to follow, then stun again, put down another tower, etc. The only hero that seems to PWN me is Erebus...

I play Rook much the same way you do. One thing I suggest is using the tower eating ability. With it you have no need of health regeneration items and it allows you to take down enemy towers FAR earlier then you otherwise could. To tell the truth, I cant imagine playing Rook without it.

Well, I never seemed to have  a really good reason to take down towers that early ...

In any case two more item suggestions: the favor item that allows you to teleport around the map seems to be the best choice for Rook given his slow movement speed and necessity to be somewhere quick when defending is needed. The other one is the 4000 red sphere thingy that regenerates 3000 HP and mana over 10 seconds, plus 50% mana plassive and 15HP/s passive. This item is unbelievable, you'll never need to find a health crystal to regenerate or use a potion. Of course potions have the advantage that being attacked doesn't dispell them, but this item starts working right away, so you should be able to get at least a couple of hundred HP in even while being chased...

Ok, Im going to switch over to advice for playing against the AI as this seems to be what you are doing.

Tower eating: 1 point in the skill allos you to skip goingo back to the crystal untill you need to buy items. You dont need health potions, you dont need health regen. All you need is the one skill. Once you have it at level 2, you can easilly walk into enemy tower range, smack it a few times, eat it for health, smack it some more and watch it crumble. On a map like prison where you can take down one side of towers and be able to make it to one of the enemies portal flags, it can be DEADLY. The main point of the ability though is healing. If you cant see the benefit of having a native skill to heal yourself, I dont know what I can do for you.

The favor item you mentioned is one of the reasons I believe your playing against AI. Online for some reason, Favor is whacked. I didnt have any trouble with it for days and all of a sudden, poof, ive got no favor and no items. In any case, yes, the amulet of teleportation is incredible for Rook. It allows you to play his tower spam build (which is probably his most powerful) without wasting any money on speed items. VERY good item for Rook.

As to the Heart of Life, yes, it is amazing. On any character. at any point of the game. It is BY FAR the most overpowered item in the game as it is bugged and regardless of max hp and mana, will heal you to full so long as you dont take damage. Even if it didnt, it is still incredibly powerful and should be on every players list of items to get, regardless of demigod. IMHO it should be an 8k artifact. Not a 4k trinket.

No, I play online, Pantheon. Favor is bugged, yes, I played a couple of games with the TP favor item and then suddenly it was gone and I had NEGATIVE favor points! Today it seems to work again tho ...

I disagree with leveling the 'tower suck' skill UNLESS your purpose is to really push. I tried it and it doesn't work too well. Early game the regen is not enough to offset the damage you take from towers, lategame you don't care anymore. I changed my mind about getting the + stat skill, I think that the hammer is quite decent once you get used to it. Sure it's easy to dodge but you can use it TO MAKE an enemy dodge. It's very effective against melee enemies like Unclean Beast. Also when AI is controlling opponents, which is often even online, it's deadly. The idea is that you have to choose 2 main skills that you will not level at all so you can max the rest. I think that the 2 skills he ca do without is stats and "tower suck" :)
