pilot AI rage!

Here is the problem There are two star sytems I want to travel between and there is a wormhole in each one, now when I tell my ships to go betwen systems they all head for the wormhole which would be good if the wormhole wasn't behind TWO ENEMY TRIAN WORLDS WITH STARBASES! but what I really hate is the fact that if they went star to star they'd be home free but no matter what I do they go to the stupid wormhole. Does anyone know how to override the ships from doing this?

manually send them from star to star. shift click.

Two things:

  • Have you researched travel between stars
  • If you send your fleet to your local star first, then once your fleet arrives send it to the star you want to go to, certainly it doesn't take you all the way back to the wormhole?

I'm playing a game with the same problem, it's a huge random.  I have researched every item in all trees.  I just had to assume there was no phase lane between the stars, so I completely reworked my strategy to assualt through these wormholes.

Here's the kicker: I've caught scouts with explore enabled jumping between the stars, yet I can't manually do it.

1) Make sure you have long range jumps researched

2) Move your ships to the star

3) with them selected, tell them to move to another star

4) wait while they jump

It is that easy....

i find some times that when i tell ships to jump either normal planet to planet of even from wormhole to wormhole or star to star, they decide instead to try and get there using sublight engines...

same thing happens with trade ships... one time i had cornered an enemy empire with my planets on either side of him... and my trade ships would try to get from the planets on each side of his empire through his empire to the other side... it made no sense... and naturally they were all being destroyed... so i was forced into accellerating my plans and taking over his empire before i really had the resources to do so.

back on topic however, i find shift + clicking to organise the way my ships fly works best if there is a problem

End of Hack78's quote

If I could give negative kharma, I think this might be the time.  By very nature, bugs don't do what they're supposed to. My guess is that since the wormhole is instantaneous it hoses up the calculation.

Let me say it again . . .

1) Every researchable item was researched.

2) Ships were at the star.

3) They were selected, then using move or the right click, the other star was set as the destination.

4) I waited while they scurried across the system they were in and used the wormhole instead.

Funny how I don't have an issue jumping my ships between stars.... ;)

get them to the edge of the system, then jump to the nearest planet, it works for me

Or so you say . . .

that might be a bug of some kind. Idn. I don't use wormholes much, i usually drop a couple of starbases down and forget about them.

Hmm - multiple people saying it works, vs one guy who says it doesn't...

You're plinking fast my friend . . . multiple versus atleast three . . . .  Even if that weren't the case that's a terrible logical fallacy.  Terrible indeed.

***Edit***

I recorded the offending ships, a scout and some subverters.

http://www.filefactory.com/file/agedfac/n/star_versus_wormhole_record

At 6:23:00 a scout and some cruisers are at the red star in the system where the camera starts.  I selected them and clicked on the green star in the center.  They take the wormhole.

Ironclad says to expect the fix in the next patch (with no scheduled release date).
