Unable To Start Game Error Message

When I attempt to start the game, I receive a message saying: "Unable to start. Unable to create Direct3D. Please ensure system has current video drivers."

It should be noted that I only receive this message after I hook up my LGW2242T monitor up to my laptop. I can run the game fine on the laptop (WIndows XP Pro), but as soon as I hook the monitor up to the laptop the game will not run. I have the most recent drivers for both my video card and monitor. The monitor I hook up to this laptop works for every other game I own. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

very odd indeed.

try; plugging in the monitor, tracking down the game.prefs file, making it migrate to the Desktop, and then running DG.

if that fails, then delete the new game.prefs file and put the old one back.

@Crimson

Try loading the game without the monitor, go to the settings, and turn the resolution to the default lowest setting(or windowed mode).  Close out of the game, hook the monitor back up, and try loading it then.

What type of video card are you running?  If you're not sure, can you go to Start->Run(or Start Search in Vista) and type 'dxdiag' and hit enter.  Your video card name should be listed under any of the 'Display' tabs.
