Testing on Mana Regen

Did some quick testing on mana regen, timing how long it took for mana to regenerate after a bout of spell casting with different gear and at different levels.

Here's a table of the results, all tests conducted with Sedna:

Level Max MP +MP/s +% Regen Resulting MP/s
5 1284 0 0% 4
5 1809 4 0% 8
5 1809 4 35% 11
5 3384 4 105% 16
10 - 0 0% 5.5
15 - 0 0% 7
20 - 0 0% 8.5

The short summary: Max MP has no effect on mana regen.  +MP/second gear does exactly as advertised.  +% regen gear also does as advertised, adding a percentage of your MP/s on top.  There's also a base regen rate based on your level.  I'm sure it's also affected by class, but I haven't tested that yet.

So the formula is something like (baseregen+regenmod*level+gearregen)*(1+%regen/100)

Baseregen is the characters regen at 'level 0', for Sedna that would aparently be 3.5.  Regenmod is the amount gained per level, for Sedna that would be .3 MP/s per level.  Gearregen is the +mp/s from gear.  %regen is the +% regen from gear.

Did I miss anything?

Good to know that percentage base gear stacks on flat regen gear and not only on base regen or something. Thanks for the info :-).

And there I was a reason a 75% mana item was more expensive than a +4... See, it makes sense in the beginning to buy the +X, and it's cheaper, but WITH that one, the % bonus will be MUCH more powerful. Nice to know this!

I think the character screen should have health and mana regen numbers listed...

If does, you just have to hover over the health and mana bars :P

And that is about as handy as an iron nail in a porno movie. I wish I could click some checkbox to keep the information on the bars without hovering over them...

Also, it's just current value/max, no +X/s...

and this is why we buy Vlemish Faceguard first and a % regen item second.

No. Open your character sheet, hover over the hp/mana in it. ;)

You only need to see it once to know what it is.

Hahah, that would've made my testing easier.

...although if DII taught me anything, it's not to trust the Lying Character Sheet.

Whoa, I totally didn't know that!

Whoa, this is what I was looking for. Just asked if somebody knew this in another thread. Great job :)

I'd give him Karma, but he somehow has over fifty, even on this forum :p

Still it'd be nice to have an option to display +hp/mp above the bars.

Well, you can make small stats box by minimizing the big one. It'd be nice if they put +hp/mana in there.
