First Impressions of Demigod

Veteran DotA player's review

As a long-time Aeon of Strife player in all its incarnations and with a Clan TDA gamecount well beyond 400 games, I am very excited about Demigod. Here are some first thoughts on my Demigod experience so far:

1. My serial code didn't work and I had to wait a day for a replacement. This was annoying.

2. The music is excellent.

3. 8 Heroes is far too few.

4. Creeps die so easily and quickly, and there are so many, that I can't keep track of gold or exp while farming. It just seems like one big clusterfuck. I also can't tell how much gold I'm getting and from what. The creeps are so numerous and tiny that last-hitting and the entire meta-game of farming gold, creeping, denying, and last-hitting (that plays a significant role in DotA) is effectively made superfluous.

5. Not being able to see what items enemy heroes have is ridiculous and possibly game-ruining.

6. Graphics are pretty.

7. The most exhilerating part of DotA, for me, is ganking, chasing, or being ganked and running for your life, and never knowing what's lurking behind the trees. Interacting with your teammates is absolutely vital and teamwork is integral. So far I have yet to see anyone type a word in Demigod. You can just grind through without teamwork because there's no need to call MIAs, because there's very little danger of being ganked. In Demigod there are no areas from which you can gank and surprise your enemies. There's just the narrow lanes leading straight to the enemy camp...

8. Finding an online game is basically impossible. In fact, my game has now started crashing if I press "Internet." If I do get to attempt to join a game, it is an endless wait. I give the multiplayer an F. It's unusable so far.

Again, these are just first impressions and I plan on playing it more thouroughly when they fix their shitty multiplayer client and I can actually play more games.

3. 8+2 coming up is just fine starting out. The barrier of god knows how many heroes in DotA is a very effective way of keeping new people out. We like new people here. (on account of them buying a copy, for a start) Also, if you have lots of Demigods/heroes the differences in play-style wind up being minute.

4. Yes. That was the point.

5. Why? Must you know every detail of your enemies strategy to have a fun time?

7. Teamwork will take off as more advanced strategies form. Everybody is just getting used to things now. (apparently they had the coordinated gank team thing down pat in the in-house part of the beta)

8. Yes indeed.

Seems to me you're a bit to fixated on wanting Demigod to be an exact clone of DotA. For sating that desire I recommend playing DotA. :P

:ninja:

Maybe a little tutorial would be nice, but its a good game anyway(kinda intuitive).

-> After a short time i got used to the anoying and time wasting try to join a MPgame..

I have to agree with Zaisha. Demigod isn't supposed to be a copy of DotA. It was obviously inspired by that type of game, but removing last-hit, farming, and ganking is a welcome change IMHO.

End of quote

It's a different meta-game but it still works.  Grunt gold and XP are aura-based and split between allied DGs in range (splitting up to farm is a good idea).  You are trying *not* to last-hit grunts/creeps in this game, because your hits are so powerful that you are probably wasting damage.  Using AoE or giving each grunt one hit and letting your own grunts do the rest is the most efficient way to farm imo

I have to strongly disagree with #5.  Why do you need to know what your enemies have?  Just to counter them?  Focus on yer battle and not on anti-whatever builds... I welcome not being able to see what my enemies have; it makes the game more challenging.
