Moving units with Generals

I have very litte to submit to this post, but I was just interested in different strategies for moving summoned units. I'm under the impression that pathing still has lots of issues. All I know now is that alt clicking causes an agressive movement ( btw stardock a red reticule when doing this would be great...). Does anyone else have any tips for effectively moving units other than drag and drop cluster sending? Can you set groups or double click units such as in wc3? It just seems very awkward to me at this stage and i dont feel like I have full control over my units.

Any tips or other knowledge would be much appreciated.

Double-click will select units of that type; not very useful IMO.

You can hit 'M' to select all of your minions, 'N' to select you "and" your minions, and then there is another key that regroups your minions... I can't remember the key.

Yes, the pathing needs some work. The AI really has issues when trying to navigate around curves.

The lack of minion control features turns me off of minions.

I think being able to setup groups for generals should be on the list of things to do (with a good priority).

I know this isn't DOTA, but compare DOTA to stardock in terms of extra unit capabilities.  One of my favorite combos was Rexxar + Necro book.  You'd end up controlling 1 hero (Rexxar), A bird-scout with no attack, a quill-beast with a ranged poison attack (had slow effect), and 2 demonic mages (One has an active ability - mana burn).  Doesn't sound like much but when you have 5 units to control, all with different abilities, being able to setup groups was a godsend.  Typically I'd be sending the bird scout on it's own to check out the surrounding area (Had to babysit 'em because if he died that was free gold for the enemy).  I'd use the boar to try and get last hits on enemy creeps or keep a slow on an enemy hero.  I'd use the 2 demonic mages to pressure the enemy hero and of course get the mana burn active ability off.  All the while keeping my own hero in good position, using his abilities, etc.  And keeping an eye on the map for potential counter-ganks...  Needless to say, my groups were 1 = hero, 2 = quillbeast, 3 = scout, 4 = demonic mages.  They were all doing different things and had different orders.

In Demigod, you have 1 = demigod, 2 = "All minions".  Well, to be honest I'd like to send one bishop to the other lane to help out the torch bearer and give him a boost in regen.  I'd like to send my archers to the side and have them focus on the enemy demigod.  Then I want to use the mino's to rush the enemy priests and take them out first.  Doing this is incredibly difficult without preset groups, and quite frankly not worth trying.  Generals are nerfed by the lack of controllability.

I play the oak and I do things as follows. I move with my minions and piggy back with a group of creeps. I drop my minions short of the combat and wade in targeting the other creeps so I give life to every one and then pull in my minions to target either the other demigod or more powerful creeps. I switch targets with oak as needed and let everything auto attack.

Actually there are hotkeys to select minion types, look in the options menu.

8 = Mellee

9 = Ranged

0 = Healers

I = special (your generals' unique one).  They are very ergonomically arranged.

Just beware, if you use the hotkey to select your a minion type that you currently down have on the map it will select your demigod... so don't accidentally send him to the other side of the map.  (That's kind of dumb, it even plays the sound effect as if you selected the minion)

The only thing I'de like to see is number counter displaying how many of each I have out there and possibly their health displayed on the HUD.  Perhaps clicking on that counter would select them. It would be nice.

Didn't see those.  Regardless, if I want to split my healers (which is the first thing that ever came to mind after buying them, one to me, one to my buddy) into two different groups I'm ... screwed.  Or if I wanted to have 2 of oak's spirits act as scouts who act as mobile observers to keep track of flags while I use the rest to do other things, screwed.

Customizeable groups are essential to micromanagement.

End of mehoo462's quote

I don't think those work.  Maybe you can't have your dg selected to use them?  Every time I use those keys, it tries to cast the idol spell.

its m and n I think you can rebind them in options I'm pretty sure.

regroup is "O"

Right now I'm pretty lazy with minions - you can do alot with M and O

Doggiedoodle,

that's wierd.  They work fine for me.  It only acts out if I don't have any of those types of units actually casts.  You can rebind them in options.  Mkae sure you haven't.

Rain9441,

I feel your pain.  But in the end I don't think it's that useful.  I think splitting up your guys may dilute them to the poitn where it's not really worth it.  That's just my experience.

The one thing I'de REALLY like to see though, is some indicator on the HUD of how many of each type of minion are currently alive.  It's really difficult to gather this information quickly there's a lot going on.

if I manually click them sometimes I have to clikc them a couple of times to get them to read but the keys work fine for me.
