Which DG is the "Most Overpowered?"

Which DG is the "Most Overpowered?"

Over in the tester review thread people have been talking about which DG is "most OP."  Rather than derail that thread further I thought we could talk about it here.

Let's keep in mind Frogboy's excellent point:

EVERY Demigod is overpowered. On the IRC channel, there are arguments every day over which Demigod is "overpowered". Rook, Unclean Beast, Regulus, Sedna, Queen of Thorns, Torch Bearer. (though the vampire lord is probably the one everyone agrees isn't "overpowered").

In my experience, what is overpowered is the demigod that defeats you.
End of quote

To flip that a bit, in my experience you can tell which DG is OP by looking at games you should have lost (or lost more quickly) but didn't as a result of DG choice.

For example - the other day I played a 2 v 2 against a good team where my ally was pretty new but playing Rook.  He made a lot of mistakes but the other team could only capitalize on a few of them because of Rook's massive health/armor advantage and relatively scary damage potential.  It was clear to me that the game lasted a good 15 minutes longer than it would have if my ally had been playing any other DG, and if the opponent team had been playing at a lower level they might have lost.

Does that mean Rook is OP?  Or just that he's forgiving to new players?

Have you had similar experiences with any other DGs?  Who is the most OP in 3F?

I don't think we're going to be able to make a good determination about which Demigods are overpowered until we really figure out how the generals are going to be fixed.  I imagine that fixed generals could change the way people play a lot.

What fix are you exactly talking about? lol :P

The original post makes it sound like people spreading claims about all of the demigods being overpowered, except for Erebus.  I want to know who is saying that QoT or Sedna is overpowered, or even Oak.  The generals are incredibly weak overall, and I don't think we're going to be able to make a good determination about which Demigods are overpowered until we really figure out how the generals are going to be fixed.  I imagine that fixed generals could change the way people play a lot.

1v1 generals aren't too hot except for certain matchups and counters (like Oak to counter Rook).  However, in a team game I always would rather have around 50% of the team be generals rather than take on more assassins.  I have been in many games that were 3 assassins vs 1 assassin + 2 generals and the team with the 2 generals wiped the floor with the all assassin team.

I used to play a tower rook and actually found it very useful for pushing, but he doesn't score nearly as many kills as a hammer slam rook.  Lately I've been playing a more hammer centric build but mainly to get a feel as to how to counter it, not to win.

The thing is you can play Hammer Slam, Stun AND Tower Rook. Just need to make sure you manage your mana properly....There are a few favour items that can help him do the tower build with no mana problems at all.

I can say only that the opposite has been my experience.  Unless you're talking about Oak...I do think Oak can be useful sometimes.

Whichever Demigod Flurus happens to choose in that game is the one that is overpowered.

idk ive had games with all assassins vs a mixd bunch but never assassin vs generals alone, in all the games ive played it never was the character the person was using but the tactics and skill they used. generals can become just as powerfull as asassins with some items, but assassins dont need to spend money on the units like general. i always choose monk of the bat, playing a general. and then ranged units,
(Makes sense i play a melee general that spawns melee units when killing enemy muhahaha)

Also the favor items deffinitly play arole, some can give a nice edge over the oppenent.
and i think the main prob isnt the char alone but paird with what items makes it seemingly OP to alot of people.

i will support the Rook is prolly most user friendly though.

If I may shed some light on the matter. I have only played vs AI so far, so I cant say im very good, but I do find Rook OP. late game, I can literally take enemies down 5-on-1, and they wont even land any damage because of lifegain/healing. I have done balancing in supreme commander on mods, and I think the problem is that the Rook has both high hp AND high DPS. This is wrong; from his description I gain the impression he is a HP tank, and wont have high DPS. If Rook was slowed down in movement speed by a half, and has his main swipe attack reduced in DPS by about a half, then increase, yes, increase his base HP by another 1000, I believe he would be balanced. The problem at the moment is that he can both take damage AND dish it out, and I think he needs to be very hard to kill, but unable to kill demigods in 2 swipes lategame. Leave his towers/trebuchet/shoulders alone, they define him. These ajustments should solve all the problems, as well as giving Rook two easy strategies: 1. Tank in front of an ally to absorb damage, whilst killing minions and SURVING (not killing) demigods. 2. keep away from main combat and use high HP and health drain (Possibly buff this one?) to make a dent in the static defences.

Just my 2 cents :)

Into release I'm gonna have to go with Generals - I'd say Oak or Sedna are most OP right now - especially with minion stacking.  A DPS Oak with 3 levels of priest minions can go toe-to-toe with a DPS UB and walk out with full health (!).  Alternatively he can get 3 levels of siege and walk out with half health but it only takes a couple seconds to kill his target.  With 6 siege and 6 priests a level 10 Oak can take down one entire *side* of your base fortification on Prison in under a minute.  That's about 8 seconds a tower.

Only played 1 v 1 and not against AoE though, so we'll see what team games look like.

With Oak I just think his 800 pentience damage is too high..
And sedna's cooldown is too low (7 secs?)

Mulitiple Reg. teams make me cry...

Snipe x?, with tracking... Don't drop below 50% or arrows will fly from all over the map. Some maps you can't even make it back to the base before snipes come flying even if it was the snipe that dropped you low in the first place.

Not really complaining, I used Reg. til this new tourney, then chose Darkness :(

Still learning them mostly.

Just reduce Rooks base hp about 10-15% and it should get it closer. This would make people have to spend more on the health upgrade rather then other abilities etc etc if they wanted the health.

I'm kinda noobish but I've noticed that the rook and TB seems to be the most powerfull ones but if you're fast enough the rook will never ever be able to catch up with you so if you play TB you can run around and use Firebolt on him, if you get to close he's dangerous tho

Its too early to say with generals. Rook and TB are standalone Demigods, with little synergy but solid power. Oak, IMO, has easily the biggest potential of feeling utterly helpless and outmatched when going against him. His ability to support his army, minions and fellow DGs is just insane, and the bigger the fight gets, the worse it is. Plus his damage is actually quite high for a General, mind you.

Whats downright insane though is a Sedna-supported Rook. She can just heal damn well.

regulus bit  op against tb in prison heres why

imo i believe he is a bit op in a map like prison against tb. Tb has low health and u cant win regulus at lower lvls if he go angel build, he can attack tower very early and generally almost anihilate u in 1v1. The only way is to try to gain xp from creeps running in another path from him till u have a high dmg shatter but that is not easy at prison since there are no empty spaces or walls in middle so he can reach u very quick and if he has slow .gg.

but i believe items that stucking items makes any demigod a kit more powerful and unbalances his role. because u stuck armors and have some high dmg/high armor demigods and that doesnt seems right imo
