link to my internetconnection

Hey,

i have to start my internetconnection by clicking on the DFÜ connection (i hope it is the same in english as in german). the file connects me with my provider. i am able to create a link to this on my desktop. now i would like to have this link in my dock. but nothing happens if i klick on the link on my dock. if i check the parameters of this dock, the link is like this ::{manysigns} it's the same with the link to "mycomputer" with the different, that the DFÜ connectionlink does not work.

after the normal link did not work. tried this:

Link: explorer.exe        Arguments: C:\\....path...\alice.Ink                        (alice is my provider, i just named the link like this)

this time the file started workin, AFTER i was asked if i really want to open the file, as if i download it from the internet.

please give me a hint, what i am doing wrong. do you have other ideas?

kind regards, froggygoggy

I'm not quite really clear on what you're trying to do, but have you tried just dragging the icon from your desktop onto the dock?

ok, this time in hopefully better english

i got a dial-up connection to my internetprovider. in the folder network-connections there is a file which creates the connection, when i run it. i got a shortcut to this file on my desktop. it is the same kind of shortcut like the shortcut to "My Computer" if you check the properties of such shortcuts, you won't find the aimadress of the mainfile. you find something like this: ::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}

i would like to have the shortcut to my dial-up connection in on of my docks. please create in your dock the shortcut to "my computer" then you see, how such links look like. then try to create a dial-up connection file. you can set one up, even if you have no real connection. try to put it in your dock. together with my new text you should understand the problem.

in the first post i had problems with the english translations for special words concerning computer.. i hope it was better this time.

if you still do not understand my problem, please tell me what exactly you do not understand.

thanks a lot anyway!

I doubt that I can help you with this, but perhaps someone will come along who can.  It will help them to know if you are using Windows XP or Windows Vista, and 32 bit or 64 bit.

Also if you want to start a ticket with official Stardock Support, that link is https://esupport.stardock.com/index.php?_m=tickets&_a=submit and include the address of this thread so you don't have to type it all again.

I would right-click on the desktop shortcut, highlight the "Target" field, and copy and paste it into a new regular Object Dock entry "Link" field.  If the target includes quotes at the front and end, I would delete those from the Object Dock field.  If that doesn't work, you might try right-clicking on the newly created Object Dock icon to see if there is an option in the popup menu that appears to "run elevated" or something similar.

after the normal link did not work. tried this:

Link: explorer.exe Arguments: C:\\....path...\alice.Ink (alice is my provider, i just named the link like this)

this time the file started workin, AFTER i was asked if i really want to open the file, as if i download it from the internet.
End of quote

If the confirmation box had an option in it "Always ask before opening this file" you could uncheck that to get rid of the confirmation message.  If it had an option "Always ask before opening this type of file" I would not disable it, safer that way.

I hope this is helpful but I fear it is not.  There are still lots of other people on the forum who might help though...

thanks for your try! i already did change the option "always ask before open this type of file" for Ink files. it did not work. your idea of just copy pasting the target of the desktopshortcut into the dockshortcuts link field neither worked. the phrase in the desktopshortcut target field is not copyable. even if i just write it manually into the dock's shortcut link field, it does not work. neither if i delete the quotes.

i am running windows xp sp2, 32 bit version.

This is a known issue with network shortcuts that has a workaround.

Open up a Run command box and type ncpa.cpl to open up your Network Connections window.  Now you can't drag the icon straight from here to the dock because it gets a little confused, but, if you right-click on the icon and select Create a Shortcut, it will add a shortcut on your desktop that can then be dragged to the dock and work properly.
