[BUG] Ever expanding Archives

There is a bug with the way the archives are created.  No matter how small an update is, the game gets a COMPLEATE archive made of its self.  Each archive is almost 2 gigs of data.  Since I started in beta at the onset of B3,  I have had over 17 gigs of archives, and for a while it wasn’t deleting the temporary folder so add another 6 gigs there.  This isn’t a problem for people with tera-byte drives, but for some one that used Raptor 36’s and SCSI drives, this gets ridiculous FAST.  And since I didn’t look at the fact that it doesn’t automatically archive in the same folder architecture as where you put the game, I didn’t realize that it had filled my C drive until the game started to fail updates.  Tried re-downloading 5 times before I did a serious look at my drive maps and found that my C drive was at 99%.  Have since changed all the Folder setting in Impulse > Preferences > Advanced Settings > Folders to set my games on my Game drive, and updates and archives to my General work Drive ( the one that has a separate partition for my page file )

The archiving of this game needs to be incremental with only Full archives done for  Game engine / Major updates.  With all the minor updates it should have gone

·         3.C

o   3.C.i     Being only those couple of files that where changed  ( I believe this is the one that was being called 3D )

o   3.C.ii    Even fewer Files

o   3.C.iii   Almost enough files to require a full back up, but not quite. ( Being Called 3E )

o   3.C.iv   Very few files.

·         3.D or 4 or 4.A   Ect.

This would cut back on the total amount of space needed and still allow a full roll back of the game if it was needed.

Edit.  Well, I just went through all the Impulse options and under in Impulse > Preferences > Advanced Settings > Archive & Install  there is a check box for Overwrite existing Archives on update.  This seems to fix my problems, but may actually add one.  If like what we had yesterday, Update, then small update to fix the first update, you would overwrite a working version with a broken version on the next update.  Not that it really matters it is just a matter of time to download a new version and for the system to copy / compress all the files for the archives.

Ok I will stop ranting now.

There is a system in place to allow incremental update dowloads for Demigod (normally Impulse would only download individual files that are changed, but since DG uses a single large compressed file this does not work as it does for other games), however it requires some extra work in staging the files since Impulse can't directly write into the game's data package on its own. As such it's not a top priority for the beta, when getting the updates posted faster is more important.

Wow, that was a very detailed response which is much appriciated (and vastly out of the ordinary for a game developer/publisher).

Thank you very much for the reply kryo.  Like I said, I found the overwright check box, and that fixed my problems.
