Sub-Factions in a new X Pack?

Just had the idea, what about Subfactions in Sins?

i.e. The Vasari have a warrior caste that has much more powerful weapons and ships, but weak economy etc, and TEC has an experimental offensive fleet division, but doesnt have carriers something like that, or you could play as Pirates as a TEC sub-faction

personally, i DISLIKE the idea of sub-factions, because there was never one faction i would like playing (im thinking C&C)

i mean, if it was there, i suppose id find the faction i like the best and play with them, but really, id rather not have to make the choice, i think each faction works well as it is... not that theres no room for improvement, but still

so, point of this thread is, what do u think of sub-factions, do you think it'll come in an X-pack or a new game or at all, and what are your creative suggestions

one last thing, please try to limit debate on strikcraft spamming in here, im sure itll come up a few times, and fair enough, but i just saw a thread about pirates and bounty turn into a debate (AGAIN....!!!) about spamming strikecraft and the balance of Flaks vs. Carriers blah blah blah. so please, try to keep on topic, if you want to have a gripe with another user on a particular point thats not related to the thread, do it over PM's, cheers

I think I would be a little nervous about introducing more factions into the Sins universe.  The balance for this game is extremely good.  I would hate to introduce another factor into that balance and mess it all up.  I hope they concentrate on improving diplomacy and a campaign for the next expansion.

BTW, I don't intend that statement to turn this into another campaign debate thread.  There is already two of those running right now anyway.  :P

I have mixed feelings about sub factions.  It can be fun.  But it can also mess it up (like in C&C when some sub-factions weren't balanced very well).

Rather than sub-factions, I'd rather see a much smaller number of completely new factions, like whoever the Vasari are running away from. A lot more creative potential in that, and for some reason I think it would be a bit easier to balance.

i agree, personally, if it was down to new tech and ships via sub factions, of simply upgrading the factions we have with new ships and tech, id prefer to just give the factions we already have some more ass kicking power with more ships and further weapon upgrades

that said, further upgrades to the diplomacy and empire sides of the game are good too, id like more ways to interact with the AI or other players, it would make larger games with more players even more fun because you could be in peace time negotiations with 3 players, at war with 2 more, allied with another, while using spies to face off two other factions, and moving another fleet into position to attack one of the players you are in negotions with for peace =)

THAT would be sweet... though after all that i would like some more firepower to back it up... perhaps make all ships able to fire at at least 2 targets, maybe a new heavy cruiser... a damage boost to cap ships who have extra banks and can fire at more targets at once? what can i say, one of the most fun parts of the game is massive fleet battles

sorry for being so scrambled, just thought i would throw all my thoughts into one post

I like the idea of seeing the race the Vasari are running from.  Not to sound like a broken record with the balance thing, but the Vasari are supposed to be more advanced than either the TEC or Advent.  The race that the Vasari are running from is way tuffer than they are, so to make the game realistic compared to the lore, the new race would just walk all over the other races with out much or any losses.  That, I think, would really unbalance the game.

but would it be tougher than all 3 empires who, having overcome their differances, have banded together? Food for thought there.

WOW!  That would really really REALLY change the game as we know it.  A good point though.  Might work if told right.
