Pantheon Join Theory

I have a suspicion but I have not been able to confirm or deny it through successive games yet. Will do so soon.

Horseradish and I successfully played a game recently from the same faction side. Good game (!). Prior to this particular game, I had tried Pantheon play while my McAfee Anti-Virus "On-Access Scan" was disabled. I always disable it when I game. The attempt failed.

In another thread and in various messages I have spoken of the problem with Impulse always failing to initialize unless I have that feature running. It seems that when I installed Impulse the "On-Access Scan" was running - Impulse now looks for it in the OS environment.

My theory is that Demigod utilizes parts of Impulse to coordinate multiplayer online games. Since my game with Horseradish worked with the "On-Access Scan" running (On), I am thinking that perhaps the Impulse part of the Demigod code cannot properly initialize/function without that in the environment.

Any game that utilizes Impulse might suffer the same issues.

If this bears out, I would very much like to see the problem killed, so that Impulse no longer cares whether or not I have that part of my otherwise quiet little McAfee On. Maybe this is a multiplayer online 'traversal' culprit. I`ll test this a few more times when I get the chance tomorrow.

After about 10 games I can only say for certain that with my McAfee "On-Access Scan" disabled I played zero games with humans. That could have just been luck of timing too.

To get humans in pantheon I click cancel every 20 seconds or so till it can find a suitable match but doing this has caused me to have negative favor points

Does this also interfere with your custom joining / hosting, or only with pantheon ?

It may be only with Pantheon play. I just finished a custom game with another human, and the setup seemed to be fairly swift, with little in the way of delays or stutters. I also recall that On-Access Scan was disabled in previous builds of Demigod, wherein I *was* able to play custom games with other humans as well.

This isn`t conclusive evidence (in Pantheon play) of a problem with Impulse and the OS environment of course... its just a theory I`m floating. I`ll continue trying Pantheon with that Scan setting disabled, reporting results back here.

Pantheon play with the Scan setting disabled, no humans in two games. 2:00 to 5:00 in the morning, that might not be surprising. Still... .
