[Interface] Demigod Impulse Chat

I really, really like the ability to join DG IRC from ingame.  A couple of thoughts -

- If I join DG IRC from the DG client before I have logged on to multiplayer it logs me in with my real name, not my nick.  After I log into multiplayer it switches to my nickname.  I would prefer one of the following -

1.  The option to have the game log you in immediately so that chat nick comes up correctly.

2.  The chat option becoming available only once I have logged into multiplayer.

3.  The system knows to log me in with my nickname, not my real name.

I'm sure that Impulse has a feature that allows us to alter this, but the game needs to do it without our having to mess with Impulse

- The client IRC chat should allow you to create private channels and game lobbies outside of the general channel

- Also, the ingame chat (not the IRC) should allow whispers

What esle?

You can change your nick with /nick but it will change when you login to your account.

With the latest update (which may not be in the beta of demigod you have) you can change channels using /channel.

If Demigod becomes as populair as we all hope the channel will very crowded. So is the current implementation only a beta thing? Is this something Frogboy referred to in the past when he talked about the plans for finding people to play with?

Things like joining and changing nicknames needs some GUI to be succesfull. Current implementaion is fine for a beta but i hope there will be a few hundred players online in the future and then no one will use it because there is a limit of active channel user before it becomes a real mess. (in fact as soon as 2 groups start chatting it becomes very difficult to follow)

Thanks for the quick reply, Neil.  I take it there are no plans to change the system for release?

It's a little thing to me, but I think you will see people caterwhauling after release about the annoyance of having a conversation in IRC on desktop, starting the client and popping up ingame IRC to continue the convo but then having to change their nickname; not to mention many many gamers don't want their names flashing up every time they try to log into a gamechat lobby...If it's hardcoded then so be it, but bring an umbrella :-"   (The simplest solution would be to make ingame IRC available only after ingame login)

Edit: Looking at the changelog for 3B this might be moot.  I'll play around with it when I get a chance..

End of quote

I'm sure the system will funnel new users into seperate lobbies at capacity, right?  You are going to want to have Demigod IRC lobbies 1-10 with a popdown menu for access to all public channels, quick friendslist access, and favorites, imo..

Agree with you on all your suggestions, Ke5strel, thanks for taking the time to make them (it saved me from having to make a lengthy post :))
