Fences not showing after last update

After Updating to the latest version of Fences (0.96.40 from 0.96.39) all Fences turned invisible, the lables have gone missing as well as the scrollbars. I was still able to resize and move the fences windows by placing the mouse on the (now invisible) fence border. After uninstalling, rebooting and reinstalling fences I could create a fence with rightclick-dragging but the new fence stayed invisible again, still no lables. I checked if lables were on or the fences colors were changed by the update and even switched lables off an on again to make sure but that didn't fix anything.

A more serious problem has come up after that. Click-dragging the mouse with either button or even plain left clicking (once) hides all icons until the mouse button is released which makes it impossible to select an icon or start a program from the desktop (Start-Menu still works). I'll try a reboot next but if this doesn't do anything I'll be forced to uninstall fences again.

Any suggestions or other users here with a similar problem?

Running XP Home, SP3, Tested on Notebook (ATI Graphics) as well as Desktop PC (Nvidia). I had no problems with fences up to this point.

edit: The icons going missing are the result of there being no fences (but with Fences installed, of course). After creating a new fence this problem goes away). Unfortulately still no labels, scrollbars or color on fences after reboot.

edit2: Scroll bars reappear after resizing a fence but they won't fade out when inactive (option selected in the customize windows of Fences). Still no news on the Background Style/Color though.
