Opening Cinematic

So, who likes the new opening cinematic?  I liked the old one as it showed us most of the demigods, but this new one is pretty nice too.  I like the heiroglyphs.  Maybe if the heiroglyph scenes could cut away to some snips of the other movie at opportune times?  Anyone else have anything to post about the cinematic?  Anyone else care?  Maybe I'm just one of the few who like watching these things. o_O

I think it's awesome that Christopher Lee is voice acting for the game now, his voice is really quite amazing for a game like this.

My only regret is they took out my favorite quote in the entire game, "Oh my Demigod".  I'd like to hear Lee say that tbh, not Godlike over and over -.-.

One of the best, to me, intro cinematics was for the original Dawn of War (though it irked me to no end that, initially, you couldn't skip it). It really conveyed the background and tone of the game to me - brutal, fast, chaotic.

Cut over to DG's intro. I like it and I like the style, but without any footage of combat it feels very stately and "weighty" which doesn't feel like the gameplay (which is quick and full of action). Perhaps, if GPG and Stardock are considering changes to it, some method of integrating combat footage would tie the tone of the intro and gameplay together more?

DrGuppie, I felt the same way.  They could flash to the scenes from the original movie at times during the narrative intro so you get sneak peeks at the demigods and a taste for the action of the game.  Just a suggestion....

I don't think it needs to flash into gameplay.  It's an introduction to the game itself, not a teaser trailer.

There was something with the text that is nagging at me, but I can't recall it now.

EDIT:

There was another intro movie?  Which beta did that come with?

Beta 3 introduced the new cinematic.  The previous one just showed a bunch of combat footage.  It was enertaining but didn't really introduce the game.  More of a teaser trailer.

End of RaveBomb's quote

*shrug* I just feel like the intro's tone/feeling doesn't match the tone/feeling of the gameplay. I don't think it's bad or anything and wouldn't want to direct resources at it that would go to gameplay elements.

I liked the visuals.  I liked the voice acting.  I didn't like the script.

Look at the intro for Total Annihilation.  In the first 60 secs, we get the purpose for the war and what Victory means.  It focuses the mental state toward single and multiplayer.  Arm played vs Core for the fate of Humans across the Galaxy.

I watched the intro twice and think that I understand what's going on.  I could be mistaken as it seems to conflict slightly with the text on the web site.

From the Demigod intro, I got the idea that the gods destroyed the universe during a meeting.  They were scheduled to have another meeting shortly.  However, during the intervening years, they threw down the Progenitor and now can't meet the quorum needed to destroy the universe again.  In order to have the meeting, they are looking to raise one of his kids to divinity.  Then they'll destroy the universe...  I think.

The first problem is the terminology they used for the piece.  The script was too technical.  The easiest way to put it, there was too much new vocabulary introduced; too many references to the game fiction.  The script also fails to address the central conflicts of the multiplayer story.

The second problem is that it doesn't really address why any of these people are in the competition, why do they align along the forces of light and dark (the basis for the multiplayer), or what is the real "prize" (Again, the whole purpose of this competition is to hold a meeting to "silence the spheres?")

Finally, Although I did like the visuals, I'd suggest some different effects for different areas of the hieroglyphs, different colored lights, Maybe a black energy takes over half of the "frames" to go with the forces of light and dark.

It was a teaser trailer.  Iirc, it was the first footage released and then they decided to use it as the beta intro.

I agree that there needs to be some ingame footage in the new intro.  It is indeed too "weighty".

It would go better if I wasn't just watching a wall. The script sorta made me cringe and felt rather long winded. It's feels to me a want to get the story out of the way in one big go so there would be no interruption until the ascension video.

Magus-K ill tell you the story.

The Gods first met and watched over the realm and imposed themselves silently.

One of these Gods "the progenator" made himself known to the creatures of the realm (had interactions with them that was an illegal act according to the other gods) so the remaining gods got together and destroyed the progenator for commiting "crimes".

Now there was a problem, His place must be filled with another God. They collected all of the progenators children who held enough divinity to ascend to godhood and placed them all in an arena to see who was worthy of becoming the next "progenator".

There was no exploding of the worlds when the gods got together before. They just need someone to fill the void of the last god
