Installation problems

Monitor resolution not supported

Hey everyone..  I have a problem with installing ObjectDesktop:

A friend who switched to Mac gave me his stardock software (yay!)

I believe what I have is Object Desktop 2008; I tried installing it, but it says I have to have a minimum resolution of 1024x768. Problem being, I have a fairly small monitor (widescreen) with a maximum resolution of 1280x720 (which I run). Because of this, I can't even install; is there any way around this?

I hope there is, as I saw all this running on his old computer, and what you can do with OD is incredible. Please tell me there's a way for me to install :)

Thanks in advance for the help!

Outside of your particular issue, licenses for Stardock software is non-trasferable.  If you really like what you saw, you need to purchase it.

Is it Impulse that you were trying to install?

Actually, since he no longer has the system he purchased the software for, and as he *owned* the software, he *is* allowed, by law, to give that software to me, as long as he doesn't run it on any other system, and since he has a mac, he can't.  His online content/account is not transferrable, but the actual software is, by law.

And no... I'm trying to install ObjectDesktop.

*sigh*  if I had a program on a CD-ROM or DVD or whatever, and no longer had any use for it, I can GIVE it to someone else, as long as I don't retain a copy for myself.  The same applies here. By law they can't tell you you can't give something away as long as you're not retaining a copy. But that whole post was a waste of time, as my original question isn't being answered.

I believe that your friend agreed to the license by exchanging money for it.

If you believe that the software has value to you, buy it. Just. Like. Your. Friend. Did.

Then, install Impulse to register and download the applications that make up the suite.

Unfortunately the rules is this case are made by the original developer of the software, Stardock.  Your friend should have checked them before giving away the software.  Your original question can not be answered or you provided a fix because of the end user guidlines.  Sorry.

LOL ok...   So if I didn't tell you that I'd received it basically as a gift, I'd get help.  Ok.

Naturally.  I fully plan to buy it, if I can't get support with this gift. However, don't use the condescending tone with me about this... If someone gave you a piece of software, or gifted you a piece of software, you'd take it too..  I'm not trying to cheat anyone out of anything -- I was given a paid-for, legit software package.  Excuse me for accepting the offer :/

If you presented yourself as the original buyer of the software you would had been asked questions that you more then likely couldn't answer at which point you would had been directed to contact [email protected] for assistenace.

Stardock does provide for the buying or 'giving' a piece of software to someone.  It's normally done when the software is purchased.  There are no provision if I buy the software then after 30 days want to gift or give it to someone.

This is curious to me, How exactly did he give you the software? You said you tried installing it which to me sounds like you didn't buy or was given a computer with the software on it.

I actually gave you the answer.  Sorry if the tone was unacceptable.

Object Desktop is a suite of apps.  They are all iinstalled via Impulse.  And you need to register for the installs to work.

Not really, as soon as someone from Stardock was to see this thread and check to see you have not purchased Object desktop it would then be asked where you got it.

He had the suite on his PC and gave me a burned disc with the software on it. I assume he had it burned to disc as a backup, but I don't know.. No I didn't get his old computer though; I tried installing it from the disc he gave me.

And as I stated before, since I evidently can't be 'given' the software, then I will certainly purchase it. I saw him running it on his machine and think it's cool as anything. I'm truly not a thief, I didn't steal, and had no intentions of ticking anyone off. As far as I knew it was totally legit for him to give it to me.

There are trial versions of many of the programs for ObjectDesktop.  It may be worth your while to check them out to help you make a decision as to which programs you would like to have.

I don't believe anyone was accusing you of 'stealing' the software and you haven't 'ticked' anyone off.  When the Stardock programs, such as the collection in ObjectDesktop, are purchased it is registered to the individual that bought them and requires a Stardock.net account (which is done during the purchase process) in order to download the software.

No one is calling you a thief, a lot of people come here asking questions that are suspicious.

You would need to download a program called Impulse and you would have to register. And even from there I don't know if the backup would work because it was on a different machine. My suggestion is to start fresh because one little glitch could give you some trouble.
