Go Big or Go Home

I'm interested in getting this achievement and I have thought about what combinations of capships to get for each race.

TEC

4 Kols

2 Sovas

2 Akkans

4 Dunovs

4 Marzas

Advent

4 Radiances

2 Halcyons

4 Motherships

2 Revelations (I know they suck, but I'll get them for the sake of getting every type of capship)

4 Raptures

Vasari

2 Kortuls

4 Skirantras

2 Space Eggs

2 Maruaders

6 Desolators

What do you think? Would these work or are other capship combos better?

Four "Holy Trinities" supplemented by the Halcyon's Amplify Energy Aura and their combo cooldown times shortened by Guidance looks lethal enough...

BTW, Rapture allows you free frigates if you can get one to level 6, since the GBoGH achievement restricts you only from building frigates and cruisers, so Domination gets you a few free frigates.

Have you tested it though? It depends on how the game handles it, like if the achievement tracks "creation" of frigates, or simply the number of frigates the player owns.

I've done it with v1.05, captured about 20 pirate ships but still got the achievement in the end.

Sounds good ;) Just wanted to make sure so the guy doesn't end up losing the achievement :P

Thats good to know. Thanx for testing it out.

One other thing: Because I have Entrenchment, I'm worried about enemy mines because I won't have scouts. (As Advent I could capture them with the Rapture) How has anyone been able to deal with mines with TEC and Vasari?

Just as info on something mentioned earlier.

It was said that repair cloud stacks in the beta...

I tested it and as in all other versions it doesn't so the use of multiple skarintra's isn't much.

Agentx Did you read where I said that the vasari evacuator has the highest DPS of all vasari caps (have too admid i didn't check that but it seems hard too beat the 30 dps in addition with it's weapons) so why do you say it's maxed on firepower and only has 1 egg?

Just plow through them. That's what I did. Capital ship shields are strong enough that a few hits won't deplete them but get their mitigation capped, so afterwards hitting mines doesn't hurt as much. Just set your Dunovs on auto for the shield regen ability, and charge in.

Im playing a GBoGH game as TEC atm and I'm winning so far with 3 Kols, 2 Marzas, 1 Akkan and 1 Dunov, but I havn't encountered mines yet. Thanks for the info, I didn't know caps could do that and survive.

I usually use the Point Blank map to do any of these achievements. Build the most powerful cap, level it up, then rush the other homeworld. Micro the attack to kill the frigate builder, then the cap ship, then the cap ship builder. ASAP do the crew research and build a second cap and send it over.

Just did this achievement the other day along with 'Actually, Hal, I can do that' (4 AI opponents on Hard or greater)

The 4 AI I played against were all set to Unfair. We were all on seperate teams with the teams locked.

I played on a large single star map, as a Vasari player.

Starting out the first thing I did was recycle my frigate factory and built a cap factory.

1st cap ship I buillt was an egg and sent it to the nearest astroid.

I went with Imperial labs to start with, my main focus was to get trade setup as fast as possible because the extra income will help in getting more cap ships out.

2nd cap ship was a carrier for the repair and added fighters.

3rd was a kortul

4th was a desolator

It was around my 4th cap ship that I had finally encounted the AI, and for a while it was touch and go. I had an early epic fight for a terran planet. The AI had about 20 frigates and a cap ship against my level 3 egg, level 2 carrier and both level 1 kortul and desolator. I would like to think that without the repair cloud I would of lost my egg.

I then pumped out two more carriers, keep in mind that all the strike craft I have built and will build will be fighters.

Next was another Kortul followed by a maurader for the speed boost, which is awesome btw.

My next 8 ships were all desolators, and with the phase missile updates... WOW! They do a ton of damage.

The game lasted for about 6  hours total. I saved often because every now and then I would crash (beta 2.5)

Once the majority of my cap ships were level 5 and 6 I never had to worry about any of them dieing. I eventually ended the game with my egg and 1st carrier at level 9 and the rest at level 8.

Near the end of the game, my total fighter fleet was between 42-48 fighters ( I can't remember the exact number) Those fighters were enough to keep the advent fighter/bomber spam from nuking any of my cap ships early in a fight. The weapons jam from the Kortul also helped a lot as well.

I would say doing this achievement with Vasari is the easiest due to phase gates. Cap ships can be slow to get around so having a phase gate keeps your fleet very mobile.

Great recap. I had the same setup with AIs and such, only I did TEC. I still think TEC is easier, once you get 3+ Marzas to level 6, you never have a real fight. Everything just dies in 5 seconds :P

I will agree with you that 3 or more Marzas at level 6 is surely a win against any force.

During my battle with the AI, I eventually came upon to war fronts against pink and green, and both were hitting me at two different planets on opposite ends of the galaxy =( .. I had a powerful defense setup at each planet (except for starbases) but sooner or later the AI would wear down my defenses, enough where I had to reinforce with my cap ships.. The number of jumps between my two front lines were around 6-7. It would of been a pain to move my fleet around that much. Without phase gates I feel that eventually a planet would fall before my fleet could arrive to save it.

Granted I was playing on a large map. I think playing on a medium map would be a smarter choice if you are going with advent or TEC.

The advantage of the TEC is also that you can build your minefields without needing a cruiser to do it! Even with no starbases, I have no issues with defense since I knew which direction they'd be coming from and just mined the hell out of it. The AI, at least in 2.5, just never really bothered to mine sweep.

You sir are correct, I didn't even think about mines. Good call =p
