taskbar quit working!!!

I everyone. Hope someone can help me! I downloaded the latest version of impulse to my laptop and loaded my fevorite programs. I downloaded cursor fx, windowblinds, object dock, and desktop x. I used windowblinds and loaded the Plastic Fantastic skin and now my taskbar wont work! If I move my cursor over the taskbar all I get is an hour glass. If I open control panel I still cannot get into the taskbar. I tried to unload everything thinking that would correct the problem but it hasn't. Any ideas?

It sounds like you explorer is hung/

Go into task manager and stop it (second tab, select it, end process)

Then, still in task manager, File | New task | explorer.

Report bacdk.

I stopped explorer.exe in the task manager and restarted it with no results. I've also tried restarting my computer several times with no help. I also tried to reload windowblinds and to change back to the xp skin to see if that would reset it but didnt work. I forgot to mention that when I loaded Plastic Fantastic I recieved a message that read "This skin supports per pixel borders, but it seems your graphics hardware does not." It gave me two choices: "enable limited per pixel support" and "use the non per pixel frames". I have tried both options. Nothing has fixed the problem.

OK! I started to end different processes in the task manager and when I ended the MXTASK.exe my taskbar works again! I've restarted my computer several times and MXTASK.exe starts up and stops the taskbar and start menu from being used until I stop this process. Does anyone know what this process is used for and why it locks up my taskbar?

According to google, it is part of the Fix-it proggy that runs in the background

also found this:

Description

mxtask.exe is associated with V Communications Fix-It utilities and is an essential background process for this application. "This program is a non-essential system process, but should not be terminated unless suspected to be causing problems.\r"

LOL...I just discovered that when I do stop the MXTASK.exe process my internet explorer will no longer connect to the internet.

Maybe I should remove fix it utilities and try reloading it?

Any more news on this?  This is the symptom I'm experiencing too.

An earlier post suggested it might be related to Impulse, but then it was tied to a tool from Google.  Could Impulse have provided an updated version?  If one returned to the prior version of mxtask.exe, would that be safe?  Is it viable to deinstall Impulse?  Will ObjectDock still work and will one be able to participate in the forums without Impulse?

I'm about to venture out and try some stuff, but I thought I'd reach out in case there was any more info...

Thanks for any help.

Impulse is the download tool for getting your software and it's updates.  Not having it on your computer will not affect using any of the software or participation in the forums.  Having said that I wouldn't uninstall Impulse.

Just what does Fix-It Utilities do?  Is it a needed piece of software or just nice to have?  Is it duplicating what can be done by the OS?

try excluding mxtask.exe in the windowblinds configuration panel
