Dial-up woes

Need debugger link

Hi, all.  New player, here.  I really like this game, but I have repeatedly crashed it -- particularly in large games that get intense.  I suspect I have a memory problem.  I read somewhere that there's a debugger download (why not part of the original game?), but, on my frustratingly slow dial-up connection, I've just lost patience with goose-chasing around the site and hoped someone would throw a link at me.

Thanks in advance.

is this : https://forums.stardock.com/328255

what you're searching for ?

I'm not sure... mind you...

If I was you, I would make sure that my game is updated though, since a lot of fixes were done (said that because you said you were on dial-up, so maybe you didn't update yet due to time constraints)

Either you're speaking of the debug.err, which dependent on version is either in the appropriate folder in \My Documents\My Games, or for older versions in the program directory (\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2), or you're speaking of SmartException, which is a mere 274 kilobytes.

If you're running Vista, SmartException won't generate crash reports for you. Vista wants to keep you 'safe' from it, I guess.

If it is memory then it may be linked to your invasions. Try turning down the planet surface variety slider to 0 (default 50) this should free up a few hundred MB for you.

You can always turn off AA and turn down some of the graphics as well.
