Downloading Updates ... *sigh*

Is it just me, or does everyone have to essentially download the entire game again every time there is an update?  It's not the end of the world, but my download rate here in Iraq ranges from 13KB/s to 76KB/s (on a good day).  Takes me anywhere from 8-12 hours to download, normally (nerf satellite connections ... wait, no ... buff them).

A more simple patching process would be far more preferable.  I downloaded the most recent update yesterday afternoon (my time), and the only difference I can tell off the bat is that the password is now hidden (thanks!).

Just a suggestion.  I know most of the beta community is NOT dealing with teh suck internets, but I'm really enjoying testing, and it puts a cramp in my play time, for sure.

The issue is that gpg compresses all their small files into a couple of big files.  This means if 1 text value changes in the small file, we have to redownload the big 600mb file.  Stardock is working with gpg to change this from my understanding, so that future updates are somewhat more reasonable.  However bear in mind this is a beta and even when they have this in, there will be some big downloads still to come.

but that large file is just an uncompressed *.zip.

it really isn't an issue to extract, modify, archive. i mean, the SupCom patches do this, and they're only 40MB. granted that they aren't milestone shifts from b1 to b2 that require 40,000 lines of code changes and 9,000 new textures and effects data.

IIRC, there was a patch that was only 300MB. that was a smallish update to one beta.

[PS:] in this case i do believe it's an issue with the way Impulse works, considering DG is pitted at Impulse's cornerstone titles i still hold hope that it'll be properly delt with.

At this point it's just extra work for them to work on patches. It's so much simpler to just package it all up. They've said they will do patches the normal way in the future.
