[Crash] Display driver stopped responding

Seems to happen at random times.  Mid-game sound is normal but video crashes to make the screen look like "tv snow" but with horizontal lines in it (hard to explain).  My system is:

Core Quad 6600, ATI 4850HD (using DVI), 4 gb ram, vista 32 bit

I've had this problem occur with older betas on my geforce 8800 gts. It hasn't happened yet with the new beta, and in fact it hasn't happened at all in a while. AT one point I updated my drivers and I went to Windows Update and got some drivers from there too. Maybe that fixed it?

And I didn't get horizontal lines or anything, my screen just went blank. Sometimes I could alt-tab out of it and my screen would have horrible resolution and color (just like if my display driver stopped working. Oh wait...)

I had an old driver from June, just updated last night to the newest one. Played twice no problems so far. seems like that was it.

Mine just did it again, and i updated my drivers like a week ago. It seems to be less often, but I'd hoped it would stop altogether.

EDIT: They came out with another new driver 2 days ago, so I'll comment again if it happens after I install the new driver.

I have new issue, but put in this thread because it might be related, also see system specs in first post.

Every time I play Sedna, I get about 5 minutes into the game and then screen goes black and sound gets caught in a loop, no response from any input device, only thing can do is reboot system. Here is what the debug.err says:

yeah, i hadn't heard of it until this forum; i believe it was Zubaz or Frogboy that started pushing people to use it. it's a great website, and i think everyone should use it.

ATI 9.1 is bugged. Almost every game wil CTD.
I recommend using version 8.12
