Map creation

I'm new and am having problems with the map creator.  I made a two star map with a few planets each.  The problem I'm having is that I can't connect the stars.  How do I do that?

So, I went and downloaded Galaxy Forge or whatever it's called.  But, for whatever reason, it won't allow me to open my map.  Which really is a damn shame, because that program would allow me to make a connection.  Any ideas?

Stars don't need to be connected, there is no special phase line. I guess it's hardcoded. As soon as you've researched it, all your ships will be able to jump from one star to another. Of course you have to connect the star to the planets around it.

Edit: You most likely downloaded GalaxyForge 1.1, so the map needs to have the version number 2. Open the galaxy file with notepad or similar and look at the second line. If it's 1, just change it to 2 and save the file (check if notepad added .txt and remove that). If it doesn't work: How did you create the map in the first place?

I first created the map with the random map generator.  I then opened it in the Forge so I could connect two of the outer planets together with a chain of astroid belts.

I tried playing the map, and everything on the map was gone, of course, ending in my defeat.  Would that have something to do with the 1 and the 2?

EDIT: I just checked on the text thing, and it was already on two.  You know, it's difficult learning an anti-user program WHILE learning Vista (I just got a new computer and I really do hate Vista)

It's best not to use both editors on the same map like that as the maps created by each are handled differently by the game. With the in-game editor, there is a lot of randomness and the player starts are added by the game itself. With GF, you need to manually add the player starts, or the game will insta-lose when you try to play it.
