The New Forum Features (part 2)

There are some new features in the forum. Right now, many of them are only available to moderators/admins (like all this neat html editing).

However, there are some cool features you can now make use of:

  • You can now follow a post and it will email you when there's been an update to a post you're following.
  • You can quote by starting your quote with the square brackets "[" quote "]" (but without the quote signs).
  • You can view just the posts you've posted.

odd. the first thing i did was type in the quote /quote with the proper square brackets but it didn't quote but now it works. oh well.

Don't know about the Jabba thing but I'm trying again modifying the quoted text a bit.

When I put some returns into the quote it seems to have used them but seeemed to forget to indicate "quoting" by including the little box.

Ah the joys of testing a new feature. ;)

This forum seems hard to use. Is there a way to set user prefs? I'd like to mark all threads read when exiting, then display only those threads with new posts on my next visit -- standard BBS stuff, but I can't seem to find anyplace to set viewing options.

Not really. The next best thing is Stardock central, where it at least seems to keep track of which ones are new or not.

It works in IE, not in my version of Mozilla. It automatically puts HTML markup around your quote, then sticks it in the message window (the thing you use to hack out your message).

Also i note that alot of times the wordwrap is completely messed up. Both on IE and Moz.

It's a problem with browser interoperability.

JavaScript has so many varients that it's next to impossible to find a universal solution. That's why JavaScript usually detects which browser is running, and uses a different route depending which browser is detected.

Some pages used to use JavaScript in an evil way, by stating you need Netscape 4.0 or later when you really have Netscape 6.
