[Feedback] Generals aren't special

[Feedback] Generals aren't special

They're pretty much just assassins with pets. Hell you can play them exactly like Assassins. Lord Erebus especially is a very potent fighter, more so than some of the assassin demigods.

Generals are nothing really new or special from the various DotA heros with pets: Undying, Keeper of the Light etc etc...

They need more ways to affect the battle other than wading in and kicking ass. Normaly the player in an RTS is a "General" because he can control ressource gathering, decides what and when to create units, decides where the units go and what they'll do. The current Generals do nothing of the sort other than walk around with a retinue of pets.

- Being able to spawn an extra wave of creeps as a long-ish cooldown ability.

-Possibly being able to control what they wave will be. Being able to get a Giant into the battle a few waves in advance would be amazing.

-Being able to point a wave of creep in a specific direction. Maybe with something like a "rally flag" which they could put down a few times during a fight which would send creeps there instead of to their normal direction. Or maybe this would only work for the General spawned waves of creeps.

-Improve ressource gathering. Possibly by placing some summoned unit on a gold mine they would increase team gold aquisition from mine, and get a little extra for themselves.

-Structure building or structure repair. Another long-ish cooldown ability to repair a mine or fort.

-More buffs. Vampire dude really didn't have that many support buffs and auras.

Hell looking at this list, you could make it so Citadel Upgrades are only available to Generals and not Assassins and you'd really make them feel a lot more like a general. Giving them an extra page in the shop where they could "buy" extra creeps to add to a wave, and an item they could use to repair a destroyed building would be another step in the right direction.

If they makes them too invaluable to have, then at least give Generals a rebait on the Citadel Upgrades, and give them certain upgrades only Generals can get.

There's so many ways you could make Generals feel more like an RTS player, less like an Assassin with pets...

guys its good u have ideas but alot of them can't work. first of all if u take away citadal upgrades for assasins that just means the generals have to spend their money on the citadel and assasins will only be able to buy items. Building/repairing towers, right now towers are extremely powerful if u were to be able to build them your rigged and Rook can already do that. base building, well their is not enough room to base build on the map and who wants to make a base while others are fighting. I think however that the minions that generals make specialy spirits and nightwalkers should get stronger with each level and you should be able to buy items that create giants. Allowing u to get giants early. they should also allow general to get those lizard things and angels from an item. I also think though you should be limited to three of the 5 differnt types of items. But each unit would have multiple versions of it as it does now so I guess u could by three items that summon the same unit but my point is max of three. I think that having general get more weak units would be stupid because weak units are feed once DG's are at like level 8.

well i do like the speical minions that the genterals get. They seems more like body guard then anything else. And those could get a nice buff to help the general out in the middle of the fight.

What i think we need though right now. Is what they plan on doing with the generals in the furutre of the beta so we can debate there ideas and possible help them come up with newer ones or improveing existeing ones.

Btw to all those that read my post. I am very sorry about my spelling and grammer its something i am not very good at.

Something definately needs to be changed here's some ideas I'm throwing. I like the idea of temporary or weaker structures, simmiliar to something like Rook has just more options expanded. The general should have a greater control over expanding the "war effort" maybe give the genarals a second set of upgrades that only they can access.

I think generals should be able to affect the portal spawns, not necessarily control directly, maybe give them the abillity to change the movement lanes or set rally points.

In terms of having the general control a swarm or a few powerful creatures, I think it would be a good idea if their were both for different general types, balancing would be tough but it would make choosing a general more interesting as to which type you want.

The target dynamic should be assassins as frontline soldiers and generals as backline support characters, when you take the name at face value they should do very little fighting on their own and rather command and provide support.

On the contrary, I'd rather see Generals be able to have fewer summons, but ones which are in fact much, much stronger than regular creeps.  This way Generals are all about using your strong summons in the most effective way, not simply amassing an army and sending it to different spots on the map or having it gang up on an enemy Demigod.

I also like the idea of Generals being able to deploy buildings like smaller, weaker towers and healing totems in strategic locations on the map.  Perhaps they could spend gold to do so.
End of quote

But then you're just playing 2 or 3 Assassins at the same time instead of 1. A few strong units is more RPG than RTS - plus, this is the SupCom engine, use it for what it does best - lots of units.

I do like the support structures though. Buyable with gold would fit well with what the Generals currently do.

I think that if Generals can spend money to buy more creep at portal could be part of the solution. Help totem could be helpfull too.

In the few game i did play, creep were not really dangerous for assassin player, it was not challenging. So making all non demigod creature better could create a need for real assassin.

Using base like in LOTR:Battle For Middle Earth 1, replacing gold mine and portal and allow General to build what they want on these location (marked with a flag). The team who capture the flag capture the outpost whit all it's batiment. (my 2 cents ;) )
