Holidays Suite Challenge

It's the Holiday Season, soon people will be off from work, kids home from of school and older children visiting on a break from college.   Oh, and don't forget visiting relatives,  Rememer National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation?   What is there for a house full of people to do?  Hmmm.

Well since we are a Community this just begs for some sort of project just to keep everyone busy and out of your hair.  Sure you got the Holiday Decorations to put up.  Just how long does that take, really?  Send out Holiday Greetings, make fruit cake for the relatives (does anyone really do that?)

Well I got to thinking, and with a little polite nudge from Zubaz, (actually it was a billards cue hit on the back of the head if you have to know). why not come up with something everyone can do.  Even if we haven't tried it we all know that making a skin, no matter how easy folks say it is, does require a level of talent, skill and knowledge.  Most of us with those 'clubs' we call hands don't have much of that.  What is it that we can all do and have fun (besides walking in the local mall and cutting cheese, love doing that during the Holidays).

So what I came up with, tagging along on a post that Zubaz put up about the new Theme Manager 3.0 and putting together Suites, is a Holidays Suite Challenge.  Most of you have or will be pulling together a desktop that gets you and maybe your family in the the right Holiday Spirit.  Why not take a little time and use Theme Manager 3.0 and make it into a suite.  Hey, looking for a way to increase your download numbers, this could do it.  It will also increase the download numbers for the skiners of the different skins you use, a Holiday Present!  You could also turn this into your own family challege, kids vs adults, ladies vs men or Dad's family vs Mom's.  Upload them and see who gets the downloads.

So what do you need?  A computer would be important.  Probably some instructions on how to do a Suite.  Here's a link by Zubaz on how to do a suite.  A call to the ScreenShotters  https://forums.wincustomize.com/331457

Okay now, this is a challenge and not a contest, sorry no prizes except smiling faces looking at all the nice suites.  Rules, well appling common sense when pulling the suite together is about it.  I quote from A call to the ScreenShotters:

When a user downloads and installs the suite you built it will go out to WC and grab all the componants that you included.

The advantage to this system are:

1.  No permissions are needed (because you are not modifying the original artists skin)

2.  The original artists get download credit for each download

3.  The user doesn't have to click around trying to find all the apps and skins in the shot

If you want to modify the original artists/skinners skin then you need to get permission and include it.  (Don't ask me how, ask Zubaz)

Now you may be wondering just how many different Suite Theme possibilities are there.  Lets say you find 10 Wallpapgers,  you find 10 WindowBlinds, 10 x 10 = 100.  But wait, you can use 10 different DX Themes, Widgets, Gadets or Objects.  Hey what about OD+......................someone want to do the math, I get a headache after 100.  The thing to remember is that the skins you use don't necessarily have to be Holiday skins by themselves.  It's when you pull them all together it says Happy Holidays.

To expand on the above, lets use Christmas as an example.  You can do a Suite for: Christmas/Holiday Season, The Twelve Days of Christmas (or one for each day), Christmas Eve, Christmas Day or how about Christmas Decorations.  I only use Christmas here as an example, I know there are a couple of other celabrations going on this month.  I hope we see them all get represeted with Suites.

You don't have to make a new skin (skinners can if they choose or want ti) just find what you need in the WinCustomize Gallery Libraries.

Please identify if the suite is XP, Vista or works on both (mainly the WB skin you use).

If this catches on we have Valentines Day, the Four Seasons (not the singing group), Tribute Suites in honor of your favorite skinner or skinners.  The imagination of the community will take this where ever it can go.

I wish to at this time to offer up my unlimited time and volunteer to run the challenge.   A piece of cake, simple rules, no judging, no prizes, just my kind of project.

Okay, so get on over to the WinCustomize Gallery Library and start doing your seaches, time is ticking away.

Happy Holidays to everyone.

Working on one too....but only if I can get Sound packager up and running again. (Yes, I sent a ticket to support....now I wait :( )

Well if only a few people give it a try and get it to work that still means some new suites in the WC Gallery Library.  Hopefully if members of the community see suites being put together one by one more will give it a try.

I wasn't going to keep count but I think I will do a post if and when the first couple of new suites get added.

Keep your fingers crossed. :-"

Ok, I have submitted my Suite....had to a bit of copy/pasting of url's, since TM3 did NOT want to look for them itself. Man, i hope I did this right. I wll find out in prolly a day or two...and, if accepted, then I will post the link and screenshot then ;)

Well I am here to say that the Suite function in Theme Manager 3.0 does work, with a few bugs, but it does work.  I believe I ran into the same problems that have been identified, Icon Packager and DX Widgets.  The other thing that could be improved upon is adding some items like Rainlender, and DX Objects.  Probably there are a few othesr things. :S

Okay so it works, I posted a suite, now it's up to the rest of the Community to take the challenge. :-"

Not much of a challenge if orther suites don't get submitted. :-"
