Vista64 Laptop user, play demo first or is full copy ok to install

hello,

I have been reading the tech thread on the problems Vista64 users have been having with stability when running the full version and I was wondering if d'loading the demo and playing it would help me determine if my system is stable enough to play the game--especially over a period of several hours w/out crashing. (I noticed that the demo has a time limit of 90 mins, this might not be long enuf)

I have Gateway 6860fx laptop 1.8ghz, 4gb, vista64, 8800gts video card.

Should run just fine. I have 1.66GHz, 2gigs, XP, and an x1400 video card and it runs pretty well except for when things get big

I agree.  I run Vista 64-bit and have never had a problem, even going for 5-6 hours at a time.  Looking at your specs., I don't see any reason why you would have any problem running it.

hello,

thanks for the feedback, so just to confirm for those of you running SofSE in Vista 64, are u running graphics on high instead highest? also, are u running the .exe as admin in xp sp2 compatability mode?

I also read about a service called "NMIndexingService" that should be disabled, but I cannot find that in my current list of services, it might have something to do w/Nero which is not installed on my laptop.

Finally, since I am running a Nvidia graphics card, I will be using the 180.70 drivers per the gateway laptop forum recommendations--if anyone has tried these and had problems,  please let me know.

I'm running it on an AMD 5600+ (crossing fingers for that Phenom 9950 BE for xmas, lol), 4gb of ram, and a barely overclocked 8800GT on the highest settings.  Oh, and with the 180.48 drivers.  I just run it either directly from Impulse or the desktop icon that it created on installation.  I've never had to do anything special to get anything to work, but all systems are different, so who knows.  Sorry for the double post up there, btw.
