Need Help: GalCiv 2 EU gameplay

Need help with reserching the right stuff for a powerfull ships

Hi

Im new here and new to GalCiv overall.
Im trying to play GalCiv 2 EU for about 3 days now but the NPCs keeps attacking and capturing my planets.
Im not sure why but no matter what i reserch in shilds hulls or weapons, i dont recive new ships designes :(

What do i do wrong?
I reserch deflactors lasers and medium scale building (for Medium ships) but when i encounter the NPC
Someone he is always have bigger fleets and more powerfull ships...

I also noticed the lack of planet that i can colonize, 2 planets is good 3 is the best i could ever get to colonize.
The lack of planets im not even sure if its good or bad becouse the NPC dont have much planets eather.

Anyways, some tips could really be usefull.
And if there is some sort of a guide it will help me a lot becouse i googled for guides with no results.

Cheers

For the record: You can refer to any guide for Twilight of the Arnor, as it's the same as EU.

What difficulty are you playing? The AI in GalCiv is one of the best there is, so don't just start out on 'normal' or above like you might with other games.

What galaxy settings are you using? What race? There are a lot of variables, but your first focus should be trying to understand the economy, as it's linked directly to your capability to keep peace and build a military. Try using someone besides Korx or Terrans, these two don't have the starting tech 'stellar cartography' which displays planets on the minimap. Having that tech greatly improves your chances of finding good planets.

Don't wait too long building ships. The AI looks at the 'military' graph, and if you're a no-show, it will start bullying you for money, then just plain out attacking. Even empty cargo hulls packed with the cheapest weapon can be an early deterrant - sometimes even a first offensive fleet.

With time, you'll see that the best way to deal with the AI is to overwhelm it quickly - there is a whole subculture here that focuses on 'zero year wins' - winning within the first 12 turns.

In TA, there are far less "prebuilt" ships.  They are limited to colony, miner, constructor, etc, if memory serves.  You'll either have to build your own or use the autodesign feature-but be forewarned that there is currently a bug where autodesign fails to account for your current level of miniaturization (how much stuff you can fit on a ship) and assumes the max, so at present you won't be able to manually design ships that are superior or even equivalent.

the colonization phase is quite critical but it really depends on specific map parameters

I suggest looking at https://www.galciv.wikia.com

you'll find a lot of guides for starters directly on the front page
