If this is the alternative to tactical combat, I pray we get tactical combat.

Amen.

Issue resolved, AFAIC.

Supposedly in 2 years.

I'm gambling *MUCH* less than that; by October this year, in fact.

A formal announcement by them to have a release by mid-April'10 would soon creep in our usual '09 Holidays.

If Elemental can benefit from a Beta phase pre-order distribution process, i doubt the undeniable Admiral Flagship software of SD can't receive better attention.

Nothing i'd like more than coincidental competition between the two.

Innovation must win and if a company had that much guts they'd certainly earn my respect and more importantly, business wise, a fairly large chunk of next year's gaming market.

maybe not 3d such as sins but a 3d map.

That's minimal, in my mind.

And here's why...

Polaris is above our Sun. And Alpha Centauri is NOT on the galactic flatened plane.

We've had a loooong extenuation thread "argument" in the past, but i can't seem to find it anymore, if only the Forums search would work i'd link it all here.

In summary, i was going for a rather simplistic cubic 3 layer thick (or 5 in total) that had mid, below and above grids on the zyx planes. IIRC, everyone claimed memory lags and a stupendous CPU strain.

All i know is that i could get INTO a nebulae rather than hover above the immensity of true space.

That is what I meant x,y,z grid instead of x,y only.

It's certainly a reasonable step in "immersive" context. Exploration for real. I can't even play my games without using CTRL-Shift+U anymore through unlocking the camera, just to have that incredible feeling.

Imagine a sector thick 15 directions all the way to the maps corners; heck, scrap the Immense & Gigantic maps if you have to, SD!

Ascendancy type of "lines" to connect systems.

A revolution in Magic. :star:

If you want to get astronomical about it, there is a slight problem with the entire "galactic" part of the game: an immense map has about 300 stars, give or take. The small magellanic cloud, a tiny galxy by any definition, has over two million stars.Although a two million-star-map would be nice, I don't think we will be getting one anythime soon. Therefore, I think for realism purposes, it miiiight be a good idea to include something in the storyline about hyper-drive being restricted to only the local star cluster (possibly b/c this is the cluster "blessed" by the Telenanth.)

Too bad non of the star dock employees are reading or paying attention to this even tho it isn't official.

Spore does a whole galaxy and not one of the clouds with planets and moons and comets.

I wouldn't bet on that. There are valid reasons none of them are COMMENTING on any of it, but it's pretty much assured someone is dropping in every once in a while to look for ideas. That's the main reason I'm taking such a stand against Alphonse's ship design idea; there's a pretty good chance someone from Stardock is reading this and I want to point out the down sides of that before the idea gets too firmly planted in someone's mind

As for when, I would be shocked to see an anouncement before Q1 of 2010, with the beta starting Q2-3 of that year. Basically, a year behind the schedule of Elemental. Remember, Elemental still hasn't even entered public beta yet, and Stardock will almost assuredly spend at least 6 months on that process.

I know just trying to get a comment out of them like jump in the lake or something.

I have noticed (perhaps b/c they are busy making Elemental) that the Stardock people have generally decreased their level of activity on the forums. It's almost impossible to get a response out of Kryo anymore.

Yep, and that makes my estimates above just about right. Beta starts in April+6=October, this year. For at least a decision taken on GC3 with some devs work scheduling.

Elemental won't be released until February of 2010.  GC3 is going to happen after that.

You mean next year.  Alternatively, a year from now (in October).  (2010.)

SoleSoul, Elemental goes into beta in June this year (we're all in March'09, aren't we?) and has a scheduled release date of February'10.

So i simply took Willytmb's estimation of 6 months for a beta (i thought i had seen April somewhere, maybe from when Demigod is off their plate) afterwhich work can actually start on an early GC3 development phase.

If that's what THEY decide, of course.

Something tells me they won't be working on GC3 while they're working on Elemental.  Especially since Elemental is theoretically supposed to be "The Game".  In particular, I'd place Elemental's beta closer to 9 months-they'll want to get it "just right".

Better still, drawing an early sketchy plan with the 'Blue Prints essentials of GC3' while Elemental Beta gets near its smooth & stable final point where it's in a 95+% solid pre-release state -- would free up a few devs for other priorities. Unless of course, everyone at SD wants a full year off to sip tequilas & fantasize in Castles.

I don't know. Kryo just seems to be on the forums a lot. No idea what his (her?) actual position @ stardock is...

in galciv 1 the minors are allowed to colonize what happened.

how about in galciv 3 instead of having set ship sizes.   You have set number of spaces.  because with the ship builder a small ship can look bigger than a huge ship.

Number of spaces I mean is number of usable spaces or hard points not the jewels.

I think we should keep the aesthetic portion of the ship design as is (with the possible exception of changable numeric values for the rotation and scale controls, alternate "base" locations for extras, color-changing hardpoints, and dummy weapons and modules included by default. See https://forums.galciv2.com/334967 for details). Ok, so maybe not keep it as is, but don't RADICALLY change the way you put they ships together physically.

Instead, what we would want to change is the "space" bar on top too reflect the slot system that ALMOST all of us agree on. Instead of the size bar, you would have differently colored squares to represent slots.

I agree with it just fine.  I just don't think weapons/defenses should be limited, or at the very least not limited nearly that much.
